"Your flying eggs are pretty impressive, Mr. Eggman, but let's face it, you'll never catch me!"
Sonic the Hedgehog to Ivo Robotnik[src]

The Flying Eggs are flying drone Badniks equipped with military-grade scanners, bullets, and missiles.

History[]

Green Hills Energy Surge[]

Badniks

Robotnik unveils his Flying Eggs

"Ah, my babies! Ooh! Look at what came out of my egg sac!"
Ivo Robotnik[src]

Because of the recent energy surge, Doctor Ivo Robotnik was hired by the U.S. government to investigate the event, having his drones search for tracks of a being that caused the electric malfunction.[1]

Invasion of the Wachowski Residence[]

"Can you believe Amazon is gonna deliver packages with these things?"
Sonic the Hedgehog to Tom Wachowski[src]

Once having found tracks leading to the Wachowski Residence, Robotnik marched inside without permission of sheriff Tom Wachowski to see nothing but a blue quill. Robotnik has one of his drones come in and set to attack within five seconds, but Robotnik shook of the appearance of the being, Sonic the Hedgehog, resulting in multiple shots firing from the drone after Wachowski punched him.

Chase of San Francisco[]

SonicDroneAttack

Sonic slows down the Flying Eggs' attacks

"Sonic, I know you got the super speed and everything, but Maddie and I..."
"Totally defenseless? Probably gonna get blown up?"
"Pretty much, yeah."
"Don't worry. I know exactly what to do."
Tom Wachowski, Sonic the Hedgehog and Maddie Wachowski[src]

When Sonic got his bag of teleportation rings back with a quest alongside Tom and Maddie Wachowski, Robotnik shows up with his prototype Egg-Pod and various Flying Eggs set to attack. Sonic, pushing the Wachowskis off the building they were on, slows down time as the robots start firing. Fending them off, Sonic eventually plummets following Robotnik's unexpected attack, with many Badniks falling to destruction as well.[1]

Robbery of the First Bank of Walla Walla[]

"Come to your new papa!"
Jason[src]

Stone, Robotnik's agent, hired a criminal group to rob the First Bank of Walla Walla in order to retrieve Robotnik's Control Glove. The leaders of the group used it to their own advantage though, sending Flying Eggs to steal the bank's vault. They failed to do so because of Sonic the Hedgehog, who was inside the vault when trying to stop the robbers, running around inside of it, forcing the Badniks to drop it. Sonic was then confronted by Lindsey, held under attack by a Flying Egg. But, to Sonic's expectance, the Flying Eggs resented Lindsey's orders and returned the Control Glove to Stone.[3]

Eggman's Return[]

"That's more like it... I've been... Re-hatched!"
Doctor Eggman[src]

Defeated by Sonic the Hedgehog, Robotnik, now nicknamed as Doctor Eggman, remained on the dreaded Mushroom Planet until Knuckles the Echidna had him return to Earth for Sonic, the 'key' to the Master Emerald. Once their attempt have failed, with Sonic and his rescuer Tails getting away and Knuckles dangling off a cliff, Robotnik had his agent Stone send in a satellite which updates his appearance and set of Badniks, now including spare Flying Eggs and Buzz Bombers, and recruits Knuckles and his agent onto a team against Sonic and Tails.[4]

"What kind of genius shows up to Siberia in a convertible?"
"The kind of genius that can turn up the heat... with a flick of a switch."
Sonic the Hedgehog and Doctor Eggman[src]

Eggman and Knuckles went on a quest for the Master Emerald, following Sonic and Tails to Siberia and attacking them with Flying Eggs and Buzz Bombers to retrieve a compass that would reveal the emerald. Although Sonic and Tails thwarted the Badniks, with Sonic using the Flying Eggs as snowboards, Eggman and Knuckles managed to acquire the compass, using it to reveal the Labyrinth.[4]

Battle Against a New Order[]

Supercharged Flying Eggs fly toward Team Sonic

With Doctor Eggman now in possession of the Master Emerald, he built a giant robot replica of himself, housing supercharged Flying Eggs and Buzz Bombers that'd attack Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, who'd later form an alliance to protect the Master Emerald.[4]

Battle at the Green Hills Junkyard[]

"It's one of Robotnik's drones!"
"It's been upgrading itself!"
"Ha! No match for me!"
Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails and Knuckles the Echidna[src]

After their team was formed, Sonic was made aware of strange noises emitting from the Green Hills Junkyard by Wade Whipple. Leading his team there, they gaze upon an advanced Flying Egg Badnik named Unit, scouring through scraps that could upgrade him and help him fulfill Doctor Eggman's wishes of world domination.

After fighting this Badnik, Sonic and Tails learned to make amends with it, discovering Unit's true passion of poetry. Tails got to keep the Flying Egg as a companion.[5]

Quest to Reno[]

Buyer in Hangar

The Buyer working on a Flying Egg

After going into hiding following the dissolution of Eggman's crew, the agent, who renamed himself "The Buyer",[6] assumed control of the Flying Eggs.[7] Later, his subordinates captured agents Willoughby and Mason for their failure to capture Knuckles. The Buyer met with them in his lair while slicing a Flying Egg.[6]

Attack on Walters[]

"Egg drones?"
"But Robotnik is supposed to be dead."
Sonic the Hedgehog and Tails[src]

From his destroyed facility, Gerald Robotnik hijacked Eggman's Flying Eggs and sent a swarm of drones to the Chao Garden, Tokyo, to launch an attack on the Guardian Units of Nations Commander, Walters, destroying the restaurant and killing Walters. The Flying Eggs targeted the Team Sonic, leaving them confused as they believed Eggman was supposedly dead. However, before the drones could fire, Stone appeared and disabled them with his gauntlets, saving the team.

Fat Eggman and Flying Egg

While waiting for Stone in the Mecha Crab, Eggman lounged in his chair as he used a Flying Egg to make a burrito before throwing it along with the rest of his junk food before being interrupted by Stone and Team Sonic before Stone showed him the Flying Eggs' attack, allowing Eggman to locate the location of their drones.[2]

Search for Gerald Robotnik[]

Flying Eggs against Gerald

"You stole my babies! They know who their real daddy is, drone-napper!"
"Magnificent creations, my boy. I borrowed them to lure you here and reunite our family."
Doctor Eggman and Gerald Robotnik[src]

Following the trail of the Flying Eggs, Team Sonic, Eggman, and Stone arrived at the abandoned facility through a ring portal. While exploring inside, Eggman unexpectedly stumbled upon his Flying Eggs but was interrupted by Gerald, who introduced himself as his grandfather. Initially skeptical, Eggman refused to believe him and threatened him by activating the drones with his control gloves. However, after Gerald proved his intelligence and demonstrated their familial connection, Eggman accepted him and pledged his loyalty, while the drones projected heart-shaped symbols.[2]

Capabilities[]

"You know what I love about machines? They do what they're told. They follow their programming. They don't need time off to get drunk and put the boat in the water."
Ivo Robotnik to Bennington[src]

Flying Eggs are white egg-shaped Badniks capable of flight, equipped with a red camera eye, optical scanners, two twin machine gun mounts (which must reload periodically), and four retractable missile launchers. They have tow cables with claw-like hooks that they can use as extendable arms in addition, possessing enough enough tensile strength to lift and tear a metal vault out of its structure when used in unison.

There have been many variations of Badniks based on this model, such as the Dual Egg-Copter.

Under influence of the Master Emerald's charge, the Flying Eggs sport silver plating and a green camera eye.
