- "This is Green Hills, the greatest place on Earth."
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
Green Hills is a town in the state of Montana. Protected by the Green Hills Sheriff's Department, Tom Wachowski is the current sheriff after his father. In 2023, Sonic the Hedgehog accidentally generated an energy surge at the town's baseball field, which disabled power throughout the Pacific Northwest, prompting the United States Armed Forces to begin an investigation and hire Ivo Robotnik to discover the source of the anamoly, eventually discovering Sonic's existence. Following a chase through San Francisco, Sonic and Robotnik battled in the town, which culminated in Robotnik being banished to the Mushroom Planet.
Eight months later, Robotnik, now known as Eggman, returned to Green Hills with aid of Knuckles the Echidna; a threat to Sonic and his new friend Tails. While the duo sets up a base in Stone's acquired Mean Bean Coffee Café, Sonic and Tails learn more about the powerful Master Emerald in Wade Whipple's Residence. After a worldwide search for the emerald, Eggman steals it to conquer the universe, first terrorizing Green Hills. Sonic, Tails, and a redeemed Knuckles thus travel back to the town, defeating Eggman, and forming a new order of heroes.

Arrival of Sonic the Hedgehog[]

- "These are my people, and, dare I say, I am their loveable space creature. So what if they don't know I exist?"
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
Ten years after his obliged escape to Earth, Sonic the Hedgehog resided on the outskirts of Green Hills, dubbing the down the in the 'greatest place on Earth'. He happily stalked the inhabitants, messing with Crazy Carl's mind and prominently observing the Wachowski family, having the Donut Lord and Pretzel Lady as their favorite inhabitants. He specifically lives in a cave in a nearby forest, where he keeps all his past and new belongings.[1]
Tom's Departure from Green Hills Sheriff's Department[]

- "Babe, are you sure you're okay with this? I mean, there's been a Wachowski protecting this town for more than 50 years. This is a big change."
"I'm positive. I love Green Hills, but, you know, I want to help people in real trouble. I want someone to turn to me in a life-and-death situation and I'll be there for 'em." - ―Maddie Wachowski and Tom Wachowski[src]
Despite his sheriff duty in Green Hills, Tom Wachowski filed an application to the San Francisco Police Department in an attempt to join them, which means he is leaving Green Hills Sheriff's Department. Once he received a letter back from the SFPD, informing Tom about a pending background check, Tom and Maddie Wachowski celebrated with cake. Maddie had also searched upon Zillow for residences in San Francisco. Tom would later prepare a speech regarding his background to a donut he named 'Sergeant Sprinkles'.[1]

Wade is called by angry inhabitants
Angry residents of Green Hills complained to the Green Hills Sheriff's Department via phone call, although deputy sheriff Wade Whipple fears confronting them and calls Tom Wachowski, who tells him to call Gil and Zim before noticing a blue quill shining in the darkness of his house.

Robotnik takes over the search
Aware of the events transpiring in Montana, the United States Armed Forces form a meeting on how to solve it, with Vice Chairman Walters having everyone unwillingly agree to put grandiose scientific mastermind Ivo Robotnik to the task, who takes over the lead from Bennington, to locate the cause of the anomaly with his infamous machines.[1]
Invasion of the Wachowski Residence[]

- "Well, Tom Whose Dentist Calls Him Tim, you may have noticed that this entire town has been experiencing a power outage."
"Yep, no lights. Picked up on that."
"Twenty minutes ago, I tracked an energy pulse with a similar signature to the one that caused this disruption." - ―Ivo Robotnik and Tom Wachowski[src]
Tracking Sonic's footsteps to Tom's home, Robotnik manages to get inside, believing that Sonic hides here. Noticing a quill on the counter, Robotnik counts down the seconds until Tom tells him Sonic's location until Sonic reveals himself. With Robotnik screaming out of fear, he is punched by Tom, which leads to a Flying Egg Badnik attempting to attack him. Tom and Sonic are able to escape as Stone walks inside the house, checking on Robotnik. Before leaving, Robotnik orders Stone to call Optical Illusions for a new pair of glasses.[1]
Green Hills Sheriff's Department's Call[]

Skirmish at Green Hills[]
- "Guess what, Eggman? I'm not leaving Earth. You are!"
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog to Ivo Robotnik[src]
Sonic eventually confronts Robotnik again in Green Hills, met by Tom, Maddie and Zimmer. The townsfolk watches as Sonic uses his surroundings to defeat Robotnik, banishing him to the Mushroom Planet. The day afterwards, Walters thanks the Wachowskis and requests if Sonic can be able to speak to, although Tom and Maddie turn Walters down and later announce to Sonic that he is allowed to stay at the Wachowski Residence.[1]
Sonic Stays on Earth[]

- "Well, welcome home."
"Thank you, so much." - ―Maddie Wachowski and Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
Following the Skirmish at Green Hills, Sonic resided shortly at the Wachowski Residence, only to be told he is allowed to stay permanently by Tom Wachowski and Maddie Wachowski.[1]
Opening of the Mean Bean Coffee Café[]
Acquiring a drive containing Robotnik's manifesto, Stone followed it to rule over Karen's Coffee, renaming it the Mean Bean Coffee Café after eliminating most of the staff.[2]
Tails' Arrival[]

Tails arrives in Green Hills
Sometime after Sonic the Hedgehog officially resides at the Wachowski Residence, Tails arrived in search of him.[1] He is confident to locate Sonic in the town and rushes to alarm him of Knuckles the Echidna, who travelled to the Wachowski Residence with his leader Robotnik, now known as Doctor Eggman, from the Mushroom Planet.

Knuckles speeds upon the roads of Green Hills
Tails then takes a Green Hills Sheriff's Department car, driving into Knuckles, who threatened Sonic along with Doctor Eggman at the Wachowski Residence. Tails drives Sonic away from Knuckles, who chases after them, but Sonic takes the steering wheel upon seeing a red light, having the car drive off a cliff along with Knuckles who attempted to attack atop the car. While Knuckles clings onto the cliff, Tails flies off with Sonic towards Wade Whipple's Residence as Eggman catches up in a lawn mower, recruiting Stone, who renovates the Mean Bean Coffee Café as Eggman's new base of operations.[3]
Wade Cave[]

Sonic and Tails would hide inside the 'Wade Cave' with Wade Whipple, learning that Knuckles is in search of the Master Emerald and that they must travel and safeguard it, embarking on an adventure while Knuckles and Eggman try to halt them.[3]

- "I'm going to enslave humanity and force them to service my machines. First Green Hills, then the universe, then the multiverse, then who knows?! Maybe that'll be enough."
- ―Doctor Eggman to Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
Sonic, Tails and Knuckles would, at the end of their adventure, rebel against Eggman as a team, now that he has the Master Emerald in possession. He'd use this emerald to build a giant mechanism destroying Green Hills.

Super Sonic defeats Eggman
Having achieved the Master Emerald, now broken into the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic transformed into Super Sonic to defeat Eggman once again, collapsing the robot upon the ground. Walters' Guardian Units of Nations would investigate the area of the robot's fall later, presuming Eggman dead.[3]
Battle at the Green Hills Junkyard[]

- "The town of Green Hills; a nice, quiet place. Too quiet."
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
Wade Whipple reached out to Sonic to have the team investigate the Green Hills Junkyard, which has been emitting strange noises. Sonic leads his team there to find a Flying Egg scouring for items to upgrade with. After transpiring a fight, destroying several items at the junkyard, Sonic gets Unit to read poetry before leaving with it to eat chili dogs.[4]
Knuckles' Training[]

- "Hey, big guy. Mind if I join ya? Man, this place is beautiful, huh?"
"No."
"What, really? You don't think Green Hills is a beautiful place to live?"
"No." - ―Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles the Echidna[src]
Over the next few months, Team Sonic ended up settling into the Wachowski Residence. However, Knuckles had difficulty adapting to his new life on Earth, which he did not see as his home and preferred to continue his activities as a warrior, doing circuit training in the forest to a mountain. Seeing a team of repairmen at the house, Knuckles took them down, assuming they were enemies attacking his friends. Due to Knuckles' behavior, Sonic confronted his friend, trying to make him see how beautiful Green Hills was, something that Knuckles did not recognize. Sonic advised him to make himself at home, remembering his time in the cave, and Knuckles agreed to follow his advice.
Knuckles creates a duel of warriors at the Wachowski Residence
The next morning, Knuckles took parts from Maddie's car to build an iron throne in the house, surprising Sonic, Tails and Maddie, before showing that he created a duel of warriors in the living room, making Ozzie fight the mailman. Maddie got fed up with Knuckles' behavior and grounded him, a decision that Knuckles didn't know about, but knowing that it was about not being a warrior, he accepted Maddie's order. Realizing that she couldn't get to work by car and that Tom wasn't there, Maddie tried to ask Wade for a ride, but he was busy.[5]
Getting Kicked off the Renegades[]

Wade is kicked out of the Renegades in the Pin-Demonium
To participate in the Bowling Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nevada, Wade practiced with his teammate, Jack Sinclair, against Susie Barnes's team at the Pin-Demonium, while Susie taunted Wade, distracting him. Failing to make his final shot, Wade caused the Renegades to lose to Susie, causing Sinclair to decide to kick Wade off the team and replace him with Susie due to his clumsiness, depressing his former best friend.[5]
Quest to Reno[]

Pachacamac advises Knuckles to continue his journey by training Wade
- "Wade Whipple, you wish to be a warrior. Yet you hail from Green Hills, a place where there are no warring clans. So, why do you remain there?"
"I guess... Green Hills has always just been home." - ―Knuckles the Echidna and Wade Whipple[src]
While on the ground in thought, Knuckles was interrupted by Sonic, who recommended fun things to do while grounded. However, Knuckles lamented that no one could understand him and called upon the Echidna Elders for a sign, being visited by the ghost of the Great Chief Pachacamac, who advised him on how to continue his journey, recommending that he train Wade in the ways of an Echidna warrior and help him win the bowling tournament in Reno.

At his house, Wade attempted to lift a dumbbell for training, but Knuckles, who entered through the window of his house, helped him lift it and save him. Following his former mentor's advice, Knuckles recruited Wade to carry out a quest to Reno, offering to help him become a warrior in order to win the tournament, though Wade was hesitant because everyone saw him as a joke. After realizing that he could regain his position in the Renegades, Wade accepted Knuckles' offer, who showed doubts about his behavior, becoming his pupil and both began their journey to Reno in Wade's police car, temporarily leaving Green Hills.[5] Later in their quest, Knuckles and Wade began to bond, with Wade admitting that he was in Green Hills because it was his home, a feeling Knuckles didn't feel after losing his tribe.[6]
