After his escape from Prison Island via Gerald Robotnik's help, Shadow the Hedgehog arrived in Shibuya Crossing. While surveying his surroundings, he noticed an advertisement displaying the year 2024, realizing he had been in containment for fifty years. At that moment, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and the Guardian Units of Nations surrounded Shadow. Irritated by their interference, Shadow effortlessly destroyed both forces.[1]

Team Sonic arrives

After Shadow had dispatched the units sent to recapture him, Director Rockwell arrived in Tokyo with Team Sonic via a G.U.N. Helicopter. Sonic and Tails then noticed an explosion nearby. The two walk to the back of the helicopter where Knuckles prepares to soon neutralize the threat, Tails presenting a pair of indestructible Titanium Handcuffs they will use on it.
After jumping out of the helicopter, the three confront Shadow in Shibuya Crossing. However, all three of them are easily defeated. Shadow then steals the Dark Rider and warns the team not to follow him. However, angered at his loss to Shadow, Sonic races after him to continue the fight.[1]
