After being revealed to the public, Sonic focused on becoming a well-renowned superhero, brainstorming various alter-egos as he went along. Upon hearing about the incident in Walla Walla, Washington, he obliged himself to save the hostages in the First Bank of Walla Walla, stopping the forces of Jason and Lindsey's crew.
Settling on the name Blue Justice, Sonic was advised to wait for the right moment to use his abilities. Unexpectedly, Robotnik, now calling himself Doctor Eggman, returned with Knuckles the Echidna, both of them seeking revenge and the Master Emerald. Sonic was accompanied by his admirer Tails in a worldwide search for the emerald, during which Sonic and Knuckles made amends. Now as a team, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles faced Eggman and his giant robot, Sonic harnessing the seven Chaos Emeralds to become Super Sonic and defeating Eggman. He later welcomed his new friends into the Wachowski family.
With his newfound team that he named "Team Sonic," Sonic visited the Green Hills Junkyard, telling his friends that deputy sheriff Wade Whipple requested them to investigate the area. They fought a sentient Flying EggBadnik named Unit, which they also befriended. With Knuckles having trouble getting used to Earth, Sonic tried to guide Knuckles with methods to relax and accept his new home. This however ended in Knuckles being grounded for making the house more warrior-like. Sonic advertised fun activities for him to perform while grounded, though Knuckles showed no interest in any of them.
Sometime later, Sonic celebrated his arrival on Earth with his family and friends, but was soon recruited to face Shadow the Hedgehog in Tokyo. Teaming up with Eggman, who survived his defeat, in search for answers, Team Sonic was betrayed when Eggman allied with Gerald Robotnik and Shadow, who planned pulverize Earth with the Eclipse Cannon. In his attempt to stop Team Robotnik, Tom was nearly killed by Shadow, prompting Sonic to fight him with the power of the Chaos Emeralds. Reflecting on their mutual grief and how to make the right choices, the two reconciled and stopped the cannon's laser. Following Shadow and Eggman's sacrifices, Team Sonic continued their adventures, with Sonic being rescued by Amy Rose from a swarm of robotic doppelgängers.
Born in the 2000s, Sonic was raised on an island in his youth, sharing a home with his parental figure, Longclaw. He spent his childhood running across the island using his super-speed abilities, claiming that he could run across it in less than two seconds. In doing this, he also avoided the sights of several groups that wished to capture him for his powers.[4]
"This world is on the far side of the universe. You should be safe there." "I don't want to go without you!" "You must. These rings will be your most important possession. If you're ever discovered, use one. Never stop running. Now, go!"
In 2013, while he was partaking in his daily routine, Sonic was spotted by members of the Echidna, unknowingly leading them back to Longclaw's Home. As Sonic greeted Longclaw with a flower, the Echidnas prepared to fire their arrows from behind. Noticing this, Longclaw told Sonic to get down and quickly shut the door behind him. As the arrows flew into the building, Longclaw prepared to escape, grabbing Sonic. With Sonic in her claws, she soared out of the house and was barraged with arrows. An arrow launched by Pachacamac hit Longclaw, sending her and Sonic to the ground.
As the Echidna approached them from the ground, Longclaw gave Sonic a bag of rings, and tells him that to stay safe, he must stay hidden from those who would hunt him. She then threw a ring and told Sonic to travel to Earth, a planet on the farthest side of the universe. Sonic eventually ran through the portal and regrets his decision immediately as he sees the tribe closing in on Longclaw. However, the portal closed and disintegrated as he made contact, with Longclaw having said her final goodbye. Sonic was then left in fear of his new life without parental guidance.[4]
Now stranded on Earth, Sonic created a home in a cave underneath the forests of Green Hills, Montana. Here, he spent most of his days playing around with collectibles from the area, including several stolen signs, an inflatable guitar, and several comic books such as The Flash.[4] On one occasion, he decided to visit various tourist attractions and locations around the world, such as Los Angeles, New York City, London, the Louvre, the Taj Mahal, Mount Fuji, the Sydney Opera House and the Outback in the span of 80 seconds before traveling back to his hideout.[9] From above a nearby mountain, he watched over the townspeople while never actually interacting with them, as he had to keep his existence a secret. Some individuals who he particularly liked were Tom Wachowski, the town's sheriff, and Maddie Wachowski, his wife and a student veterinarian. Despite this, he did toy with certain townspeople that he was fond of, including Carl,[4] who he had encountered shortly after he had moved to Green Hills[1] and would become infamous and mocked in the town for touting Sonic's existence as "the blue devil."
In 2023, during an action-less day of highway patrol for Tom Wachowski, Sonic began to test his speed. He ran past the front of Tom's police car at 296 miles per hour, confusing Tom as he inspected whether his radar gun was malfunctioning or not. He ran past the front once again, now at 300 miles per hour. In complete disbelief, Tom exited his car and investigated the scene, where he found one of Sonic's quills lying in a bush. After Tom had left, Sonic looked back, noticing that a turtle was about to be run over by an incoming vehicle. He quickly grabbed it off the road and warned it to be more careful. Sonic then wondered if the turtle was simply tired of being slow for its life. He began to run with it across the highway, though he accidentally dropped it and had to quickly retrieve it out of the air. He then placed it on the forest ground near his cave.
Sonic watches a movie in secret
While watching a movie one night through the window of the Wachowski Residence, Sonic realized that the family doesn't know he's real and that he's not supposed to actually interact with the people he had spent his entire life spying on and toying with.
Sometime after the movie night, Sonic would proceed to sneak into Dr. A. Burdett's office and pretended to be a psychiatrist. Sonic would then describe his life on Earth after he was stranded and talks about the citizens of Green Hills. After asking himself a few questions, the reality of his situation finally dawns on him and that he might be feeling lonely because of his isolation.
One night, Carl set up several bear traps and whirligigs in order to catch Sonic. He placed batteries at the center of one of the traps. As Carl rose from his sleep and began to look around at his scene, Sonic quickly pieced together the puzzle Carl had been using to entertain himself, baffling Carl. When Carl then heard the bear traps going off, he quickly ran towards them hoping that he had caught Sonic. When he saw Sonic run past the trap that he had placed the batteries into, he became very angry and disappointed that he had failed at catching him once again. Sonic then lured him toward the whirligigs, which Carl walked over straight into his rope trap. Carl, now hanging upside down from a tree, yelled out that he knew Sonic was real, to which Sonic taunted him by claiming he wasn't.[4] Sonic then drank Carl's soda, much to the owner's dismay.[5]
Having seen the playoffs between the Green Hills Baseball Team and Spring Valley Baseball Team, Sonic decided to visit the Green Hills Baseball Field that night. Astonished by the headlights that lit the surrounding area, Sonic noticed the baseball equipment, which he used to fabricate his own match. After completing the match, Sonic raised his hand, expecting a fellow team member to grant him a high-five. Alas, Sonic realized he had no one he could be with. Upset at this reminder, Sonic circled the baseball diamond, gaining speed over time. Reaching his limit, Sonic unleashed a ginormous Chaos Energy blast that caused a power outage throughout the entire Pacific Northwest. Sonic hoped no one had seen him and fled the scene.
The next day, Sonic noticed soldiers, who were sent by Dr. Ivo Robotnik, roaming the forests. Realizing he's now in danger, Sonic decided to immediately travel to the rather detested Mushroom Planet. Arriving inside his cave, Sonic gathered all of his essential items and pulled out one of his rings. As he was about to throw it, he notices the soldiers were nearby his cave. Sonic was thus obliged to move out of his cave and bid farewell to his now former residence and decided to run to the Wachowski Residence's garage.
Once inside, Sonic settled his bag and held a ring, ready to throw it. However, the "Donut Lord" Tom Wachowski entered the garage, thinking he was going to face raccoons again. Upon seeing Sonic, Wachowski screamed and shoots the Hedgehog in the leg with his wife's tranquilizer gun. Sonic, now disoriented, read the words "San Francisco" and sees a picture of the Transamerica Pyramid on Wachowski's shirt and accidentally loses his grip on his ring, which became a portal to the roof of the Transamerica Pyramid. As Sonic collapses, he accidentally drops his bag of rings on the Transamerica Pyramid. Once the portal closed, Wachowski was utterly bewildered at what he just saw and proceeds to lock the unconscious Hedgehog inside his dog's cage and brings him inside his house.[4]
"They're coming for me!" "Who's coming for you? What does that got to do with me?" "I don't have time to explain, but you have to help me!" "No, I don't! Why?" "Well, my legs, which normally would be classified as lethal weapons, feel like spaghetti. I need your help. Please. It's life or death."
A few minutes later, Sonic jolted awake inside the Wachowski household, his senses immediately alert to the impending danger. He convinced Wachowski to aid him in staying hidden from his relentless pursuer, Robotnik, whom just arrived at the front door. Wachowski, determined to protect his newfound friend, attempted to mislead Robotnik while Sonic sheltered in the attic. However, Robotnik, ever cunning, deployed his fleet of airborne robot drones to scan the property meticulously. Faced with the threat of detection, Sonic was left with no choice but to leap downstairs, hitting the table and thus prompting Robotnik's rude entrance.
Sonic, realizing that Wachowski's life was in jeopardy as Robotnik started demanding where he was, emerged from hiding under the table and revealed himself to Robotnik, diverting the doctor's attention and allowing Wachowski to seize the opportunity to strike Robotnik, rendering him unconscious. With Robotnik momentarily incapacitated, Sonic sprang into action, intercepting a rogue robot drone that had targeted them. With lightning-fast reflexes, he hopped onto the drone, helping Tom destroy it with a heavy bowl as he got progressively dizzier. Tom dragged a dizzy Sonic to his truck, swiftly driving away.[4]
Having narrowly escaped their pursuers in Green Hills, Sonic and Wachowski found themselves on the open road, the wind rushing past them as they drove to safety. Nonetheless, Wachowski pulled over, bidding farewell to Sonic, left with no clue where he needed to go to retrieve his bag of rings. In a desperate attempt, Sonic tried to reach San Francisco on his own, utilizing his incredible super-speed. He zipped back realizing the impossibility of his quest, thus convincing Tom to assist him further, urging him to drive him there. Sonic yielded "road trip" in joy once let back inside the truck.
During their continued journey, Sonic, other than adhering to Wachowski's proposed ground rules and establishing his name, explained that Carl was always right about the existence of the "Blue Devil." He also made a quick visit to a tourist attraction.
"Nice going!" "Thanks! It's awesome, right? All right, who's next? Who wants some? Who do I get to beat up? Hey! Has anybody seen my waitress? Still waiting on those buffalo wings."
That night, Wachowski stopped by a convenience store to use its payphone, telling Sonic to stay put as to remain unseen. Sonic reluctantly agreed and grew bored, spotting a biker bar on the other side of the road that piqued his excitement. Determined to enter the bar, Sonic disguised himself in Wachowski's clothes. He later greeted an irritated Wachowski inside, but was told to leave with him. Sonic promised that he would stay quiet for the rest of the trip if he was allowed to stay. After a waitress questioned Sonic's appearance, Wachowski clarified that it is the result of a skin disease. Sonic spun his barstool once the waitress left, Wachowski snarkily remarking that he can tick another item off his bucket list. Having the meaning of such an item explained to him, Sonic immediately began making a list of things to do on Earth, spontaneously realizing he no longer has time to fulfill his desires. Wachowski fortunately invited him to do a some activities within the bar, leading to Sonic playing darts, cheating an arcade basketball game and riding a mechanical bull.
After performing a country-western dance with Wachowski, he and Sonic were confronted by a group of agressive thugs, who referred to them as hippies. Though Wachowski opted to leave, Sonic insisted on mimicing what he had seen in the many action films he had watched, attempting to slam an empty bottle on one of the thugs' head. The bottle refused to break, Sonic dodging a punch from the thug that hit Wachowski instead. A bar fight ensued, which Sonic negated using his super speed. He and Wachowski later escaped and drove toward a motel as the bar patrons, defeated by Sonic's powers, chased them.
In the motel, Sonic retained the exhiliration he felt during the bar fight, celebrating the victory shared by him and the "Donut Lord." Wachowski suggested they should sleep, but Sonic wanted to make his last night on Earth special, speeding around the motel room to indulge in every activity he could. Wachowski asked him what his destination, the Mushroom Planet was like, Sonic describing its desolateness. Despite he was instructed to leave, Sonic pondered whether Longclaw was wrong about Earth and the possibility of a life on the planet. He subsequently fell asleep.
The following day, while continuing their travels towards San Francisco, Robotnik honed in on Sonic and Wachowski's location and sent a remote-controlled truck to stop them. The truck launched a harpoon into Wachowski's car, flinging Sonic onto the car's hood. Wachowski gained the idea of hitting the brakes, launching Sonic toward the truck as he built up energy while panicking. Sonic transformed into a ball and bowled the truck over on its side.
Sonic rides EMP discs
Unfortunately, another vehicle soon emerged from the truck's wreckage to continue the chase. This vehicle fired EMP discs to slow the heroes down, but Sonic used them to get on top of their pursuer and used one to disable it. The remote-controlled vehicle separated again only to be spun out by Wachowski, causing a frustrated Robotnik to deploy a miniature drone to eliminate them. The drone cut the roof off Wachowski's car with a laser before Sonic managed to grab it. But the drone got stuck on his hand and triggered a self-destruct mechanism, leaving him with little time to dispose of it. Sonic succeeded in getting rid of the explosive device just in time but was rendered unconscious when he was blown away by the blast.[4]
Wachowski quickly carried the injured Sonic into his car and drove him to Rachel's house, where Maddie had been staying. Rachel and Maddie were very angry that Tom was being hunted down by the government, and to make things worse, Maddie had no idea how to treat Sonic's wounds, due to him being an alien. Tom had the idea of using smelling salts to help regain Sonic's consciousness, which worked. Perplexed by Sonic's energetic awakening, Maddie requested Tom to talk in private. Meanwhile, Rachel's daughter Jojo granted Sonic new shoes after noticing how torn up his current shoes were. After meeting the family dog Ozzie, Sonic and the Wachowskis left to visit the Transamerica Pyramid to retrieve Sonic's lost rings back, using Rachel's car to get there.
Upon arrival, Sonic quickly traveled up the Transamerica Pyramid, only to bring back information that a key was needed to get to the roof, leading to Tom's plan to infiltrate the building. With Sonic in a bag, Tom and Maddie were allowed to enter an elevator to the roof due to Tom's official badge. Inside, two workers were appalled by the noises coming from said bag. Sonic gasped for air on the roof with the others, speeding towards his rings. Sonic said his supposed last goodbye to the Wachowskis and threw out his ring, although Robotnik, whom he began to nickname "Eggman," appeared at the last minute. As he weaponized his drones, Sonic pushed the Wachowskis off the building, unlocking his slow-motion senses once again. As he used the incoming missiles and bullets and destroyed the drones, Sonic was blasted away by Robotnik's attack. He woke up to see the two Wachowskis falling to their demise, saved by Sonic's effort to transport them to Zimmer's farm via a ring portal. He plummeted upon the floor, and so did his rings and the Flying Eggs. He got up and challenged Robotnik to a race around the world.[4]
After having traveled through countries such as France, China, and Egypt, bringing destruction to these three countries, Sonic was blasted back into the town of Green Hills. While the townspeople looked distraught upon seeing the hurt alien and the mischievous Robotnik, Tom and Maddie returned to see what had happened, along with Farmer Zimmer. Although Robotnik planned to examine him in a laboratory, Tom stopped his plan and fought him, although he fell from the Egg-Pod. Wade Whipple and Crazy Carl also came by to defend Sonic and Tom.
Robotnik could still not understand what was so important about Sonic, Tom explaining that Sonic was his friend, which suddenly awakened Sonic, now embedded with an abundance of chaos energy. He retrieved the power of his stolen quill which overpowered the ship. As he vowed to use his power to protect his loved ones, Sonic charged upon Robotnik's missiles, evading all of them with his super speed. He jumped from every nearby building onto Robotnik's ship continuously, breaking it down. With the help of Tom, Sonic dashed upon the ship for one final blow, trapping Robotnik on the Mushroom Planet. Afterwards, he earned the trust of Tom Wachowski and was allowed to stay at their residence, unbeknownst to Sonic yet.[4]
As Tom and Maddie were revamping their home after a drone attack, Walters gifted the Wachowskis an Olive Garden gift card as a thanks for stopping Ivo Robotnik. He then requested to meet Sonic, but Tom and Maddie stated that he had left Earth. The aforementioned Hedgehog, Sonic, popped out from behind a couch, asking to watch a film. Tom and Maddie disallowed it, telling him it was a "school night" and that he needed to return to his cave, even though it was 3:00 in the afternoon, accordingly. Sonic, finding them uncool, walked to the front door, halted by Tom, who sent him to his new cave; the attic of the Wachowski Residence. Sonic was now full of glee as he saw all of his stuff now transported into the residence and heartfully thanked the Wachowskis for his new home before being unwillingly licked by Ozzie.[4]
Shortly afterwards, Sonic found a travel diary and started writing about the time he traveled around the world in the span of 80 seconds, recalling the adventures he's had. He mentioned what places he'd like to visit next, his excitement evident in his words.[9]
"I just thought coming out of hiding would be more exciting than this. I take down one megalomaniacal scientist and then it's back to a life of boredom."
Sometime after writing in his travel diary, Sonic promised Maddie he would avoid the temptation of going on escapades while she visited the veterinarian clinic, whilst Tom and Wade enjoyed their vacation. He however failed to keep his promise and sneaked out to Green Hills, where he created snowmen and talked to Sergeant Sprinkles about his plans of becoming a well-renowned superhero, having already experimented with various aliases for his public identity.[1]
Returning home, Sonic learned about the mischievous acts taking place in Walla Walla, Washington, and rushed to the location with excitement. Arriving at the First Bank of Walla Walla, where a robbery was in progress, he met supposed hostage Lindsey, who told him the robber was located in the vault. Although prepared for the leader's attack, Sonic found himself tased by Lindsey, who was actually the legitimate leader.
Jason called the Flying Eggs via Doctor Eggman's Control Glove, and they ripped out the entire vault with Sonic inside. Sonic ran inside it, causing it to spin out of control and eventually crash. He broke out of the chamber and revealed himself to Lindsey's crew. Being held at gunpoint, Sonic took down the criminals nonetheless, saved Lindsey from falling to her death due to the Badniks disobeying her, and guided both hostages and robbers outside. Not being seen by anyone else afterwards, he rushed home with some donuts in his hands he had sneakily taken from a police officer's box, which was an offer of thanks to Wachowski and Whipple, who were all at the scene.[1]
A few months later, in Seattle, Sonic witnessed a progressing chase between robbers and the Seattle Police Department. In an attempt to prove his heroism, Sonic sped after the criminals, eventually taking over the truck they escaped in. After fending off the bad guys, Sonic tried to stabilize the truck that held a worrisome captive, deploying bombs from the vehicle and realizing that he couldn't stop the car. He decided to dismantle it, eventually bringing the car to a halt. He later left the scene, thinking the city praised his heroic deeds.[2]
Following his heroic acts, Sonic rushed back to Green Hills, greeting Wade at the speed trap and the citizens of Green Hills from afar. He sneaked into the Wachowski Residence, wanting to take a nap after remembering Longclaw, but was woken up by Ozzie. As Maddie entered the attic, she reassured Sonic of his meeting with Tom by the lake.
At the lake, Tom informed Sonic of knowing about his actions and told him he needed to adapt responsibility first before becoming a hero, stating that the moment when Sonic's powers would be needed would come at some point. After revealing to Tom that he received goosebumps from his "Wachowski family special" speech, Sonic returned the boat to shore via his super speed.[2]

Sonic partakes in unsupervised shenanigans
"Okay. It's 48 hours until they come back. We've got TV channels, streaming channels, a house full of food and no supervision. Let's do this."
At the Wachowski Residence, Sonic prepared an airport-inspired area, scanning the departing Tom Wachowski and Maddie Wachowski with a metal spatula. Shortly after, he transported the two to Hawaii using a ring where Rachel's wedding was set to transpire. Sonic planned unsupervised pleasantry for 48 hours with Ozzie by his side, creating a mess throughout the house and cleaning it up as Tom called him to inform him the wedding would soon start.[2]
Sonic and Ozzie remained in the Wachowski Residence when a blackout occurred, with Sonic attempting to tell scary stories to a slightly frightened Ozzie. When he left, Robotnik, otherwise known as Doctor Eggman, emerged from a ring portal next to the residence. Sonic wandered to the front door, slowly opening it as Eggman revealed himself to Sonic, telling him his plans of revenge. Angered, Sonic prepared for an attack, which was reflected by an enemy unknown named Knuckles the Echidna. Blown back into the room he was in earlier, Sonic assumed Knuckles and Eggman were trying to steal his powers, but after Knuckles confirmed he had higher levels of might, he punched Sonic outside into the yard. Sonic attempted a spin attack, which was halted by Knuckles again.
Slammed into a tree, Knuckles demanded the location of an important object, claiming Sonic was Longclaw's apprentice. Sonic was stunned, unaware of Knuckles' intentions, and was saved by Tails, someone who had been searching for him. Tails drove him to safety after being chased by Knuckles.[2]
Tails flew Sonic over to Wade Whipple's garage, the "Wade Cave," where they sought shelter from the forces of Doctor Eggman and Knuckles the Echidna. Determined to find connections between Knuckles' search for the Master Emerald and Longclaw, Sonic suddenly realized there was a link. He opened his Safe Worlds Map, which unlocked a prerecorded holographic message from Longclaw. In the message, she revealed the history and whereabouts of the Master Emerald, along with her plan to pass the responsibility of safeguarding the emerald to Sonic. He also discovered that, on the map, directions to a compass regarding the Master Emerald pointed to Siberia. Sonic invited Tails to come with him, and although nervous at first, Tails turned confident and agreed to join him on his quest as Sonic promised to protect him.[2]
In Siberia, Sonic and Tails were stuck in a snowstorm, luckily finding a nearby restaurant. Upon entering, Sonic and Tails found themselves in a tough and seemingly frightening establishment. Ordering beef stew, Sonic questioned the origin of Tails' multitude of gadgets. Tails answered that he made them and even used them to view Sonic on Earth, having received chaos energy ratings transmitting from the aforementioned planet. He had spectated upon the Green Hills Energy Surge and Skirmish at Green Hills, amazed at how Sonic managed to defeat Ivo Robotnik, as he told. Tails also came to know that Sonic enjoyed bubble baths. After Tails stated he was determined to warn Sonic about the incoming threat Knuckles the Echidna, Sonic received a message from Tom Wachowski, who asked how he was. Sonic responded he was watching TV while Eggman, Knuckles, and the re-recruited agent Stone watched their progressing conversation. They had tracked the duo to Siberia.
Tails had received the wrong dish he ordered. He requested a new dish, but Tails' Miles Electric translator translated his words incorrectly, creating a sentence that offended the waitress. The patrons undressed the oddly behaving duo, revealing them to be extraterrestrials, much to everyone's surprise. Sonic and Tails were thus facing death by fire, but fortunately, Tails mentioned a Siberian custom word: "Pivonka," unknowingly invoking a dance battle between the two and someone experienced. Because traditional Siberian music was nearly impossible to dance to, having lost the Safe Worlds Map meanwhile, Sonic started a different and more suitable song with a radio cassette. Winning the contest, Sonic snatched the map back, receiving praise from all patrons alongside Tails.
Later that day, Tails remained excited about winning the dance battle, to which Sonic replied he knew a lot about Earth, mentioning the word "pal" directed to Tails in his reply. Tails hugged Sonic, telling him he had been all on his own due to his fellow villagers not being too fond of Tails' twin tails, which made Tails feel insecure and lonely, emotions Sonic could relate to. Tails revealed he looked up to Sonic because he was as weird as Tails, despite being an incredibly quick legend, making Tails rid his estranged feelings. Both feeling sleepy, Tails laid down upon the floor, with Sonic covering him with a blanket and sleeping beside him.[2]
Waking up beside a bar patron, Sonic and Tails traveled to the location of the Master Emerald Compass, where the story of the War for the Master Emerald was engraved in the mountain's walls. Surpassing these engravings, Sonic turned over symbols to match those set in the map, unveiling the compass. But alas, the two were surrounded by several Badniks and Doctor Eggman, who was mocked for his new appearance, and Knuckles. With Eggman firing a missile, Sonic threw it at Knuckles, who stood in front of a giant Owl statue and evaded it, making it collapse. As the mountain fell apart, Sonic and Tails ran up the statue, with Sonic tearing a Badnik's wing to use it as a snowboard. Sonic told Tails to remain in the air as Sonic snowboarded downhill, unfortunately being chased by multiple Badniks. Sonic thwarted most of them, now being pursued by Knuckles.
Despite his multiple quips and dodges, Sonic came to hang off a cliff, losing his rings. With Knuckles approaching Sonic, Knuckles stated Sonic knew nothing about him, despite his wise-cracking jokes, and Sonic replied that he did know that Echidnas like Knuckles had ruined his life. The two then began to remember their past losses and how it had affected their lives before Tails captured Knuckles. As Knuckles now thought Sonic was a deceiver, Sonic granted Tails the compass, but was stolen mid-air by Eggman. Eggman also launched missiles that exploded near Tails, rendering him unconscious. Sonic begged for Tails to awaken while an avalanche neared him. With Tails in his arms, Sonic tried to snowboard away from his seeming doom and called Tom Wachowski, terrified. He ordered Wachowski to throw a ring, which he did with a wedding ring. He had to punch Randall Handel in order to transport Sonic to Hawaii.[2]
"You see that little Fox over there? He came all the way across the universe to meet his hero. And what did his hero do? I practically got him killed. You know what? You were right. My moment came and I blew it. I'm no hero." "Wait." "No. I'm not letting anyone else get hurt because of me. I'm gonna fix this while I still can."
After Wachowski opened a ring portal during Rachel's wedding, everyone looked upon snow nearing them, which eventually emerged out of the ring, along with Sonic and Tails. Sonic explained the current happenings to Tom and Maddie, abruptly being captured by an anti-alien force; the Guardian Units of Nations. Tom tried to free Sonic and his blacked-out friend, but was halted by agent Handel, Rachel's supposed fiancé. G.U.N. took Sonic and Tails away, including Tom, as Maddie and Rachel equipped Tails' gadgets. Meanwhile, Sonic requested treatment for Tails, but did not receive answers. Luckily, Maddie was able to rescue Sonic, Tails, and Tom with Tails' inventions.
Outside, Sonic and the rest witnessed a green energy beam from afar, signaling Doctor Eggman and Knuckles' arrival at the Master Emerald Shrine. Sonic saw this as "his moment" to adapt responsibility, apologizing to Tom for not listening to him sooner and feeling guilty because Tails almost died because of his previous actions. As he left, Tails awakened, now knowing that Sonic was off to fight Knuckles and confirmed to the Wachowskis that he did not know what he was up against.[2]
"Is everything a joke to you? Why must you constantly interfere with my destiny?" "Because my destiny is to protect my friends and family." "I think I just threw up in my mouth." "And if you want that emerald, you're gonna have to go. Through. Me!"
By the shoreline, Sonic readied his speed, which he unleashed upon the ocean in order to travel to the beach afar. Challenged by the raging tides, Sonic arrived unconscious on the other beach's shore, awakening upon the view of the Master Emerald Shrine. While Doctor Eggman and Knuckles approached the Master Emerald, Sonic roughly arrived in front of a maze he ran through.
When Eggman and his ally arrived at their destination, Sonic stormed through the roof. Questioned about why Sonic kept interfering with Knuckles' destiny, he replied that it was his destiny to protect his loved ones and the Master Emerald at all costs. A battle engaged while Eggman sneaked up on the emerald the two were rivaling over. As Knuckles lifted a rock above the doomed Sonic, Sonic took note of Eggman's scheme, convincing Knuckles to look behind him. Dubbing Knuckles naïve, Eggman laid his hands upon the mystic relic and infused with its grandiose power, teleporting back to the Mean Bean Coffee Café and destroying the entire labyrinth as he did it. As debris tumbled throughout the area, a piece of a pillar struck Knuckles down, leaving Sonic to save him. Upon doing so, Knuckles just left Sonic to drown in the erupting waters until he changed his mind, rescuing him as well.[2]
"On the mountain you told me you've lost everything, the way I did. But you seem so hopeful and free. How did you move forward despite failing again, and again, and again, and again, and again?" "Okay, I didn't fail that much, but I didn't do this all alone. I found a new family, new friends, and you can too. You don't have to be alone anymore."
Sonic, surprised that Knuckles spared his life, questioned why he had done that. Knuckles explained he thought it was a tactic unbeknownst to him, but Sonic confirmed that was not the case. He explained it was an attempt at heroism, taking responsibility for others, as taught to him by Tom Wachowski.
He heard a strange noise, which was Tails arriving towards the beach with the Tornado biplane from Rachel's wedding. Excitedly relieved, Sonic requested Knuckles to come along, but Knuckles was still confused as to why Sonic was continuously hopeful and free. Sonic elaborated that he had found new friends and family, despite his previous losses, and told Knuckles that he did not have to remain alone anymore, extending a hand towards him. When Knuckles performed a handshake, the utter strength emitting from Knuckles' pulse extremely pained Sonic's hand.[2]
Via a ring portal, Sonic, Tails, and his reformed ally Knuckles, traveled upon the Tornado above the forests of Green Hills and watched a massive cloud with green electricity. Sonic added that Eggman, a man frequently up to no good, creating something with the Master Emerald's ability of manifesting thoughts into reality could be quite dangerous. Tails, still skeptical of Knuckles, asked Sonic if it was a good idea to bring him along. Sonic said that Knuckles was "mixed up," encouraging Knuckles to refute this by claiming that he was complex in his own way. As the Giant Eggman Robot marched towards the town, Sonic tried to come up with a plan. As Sonic started to tell Knuckles to use his strength, Knuckles jumped off the plane. Out of ideas, Sonic decided to improvise by lightly taunting Eggman. Shortly after theWachowskis saw the Tornado fly by, Eggman launched missiles at the plane, which Tails successfully dodged all of them. Suddenly, Sonic was struck by one, sending him flying in the opposite direction. Knuckles finally reached Green Hills and yelled at Eggman, calling him a deceiver. Sonic directed the missile towards the Robot's knee, which stumbled the robot temporarily.
The three came together, all stating how their attacks had failed. Sonic, however, told everyone they should work together as a team. Now battling supercharged Badniks deployed by Eggman, Tails suggested looking for Eggman's weak spot, with Knuckles advising to hit the groin. Sonic soon realized that he was the "groin," knowing that Eggman was always thinking about him all the time, and came up with the idea of distracting him while Tails and Knuckles climbed to the top of the robot. Sonic executed his plan and led Eggman into the forest. After a little while, Sonic asked Eggman what his goals were. Eggman told him that he planned to enslave humanity, and eventually the rest of the universe. He added that Sonic would not be present when that happened. He then fired lasers upon Sonic, which he evaded. Sonic became tired, running upon a bridge that was destroyed by Eggman's laser.
Lying severely injured below the Giant Eggman Robot, Tails and Knuckles managed to extract the Master Emerald from Eggman, with it falling down nearby Sonic. Sonic awakened and noticed the gem, attempting to reach it as Eggman restarted the previously broken-down machine. He managed to get it, being picked up by Tom and Maddie in a truck. Eventually halted due to the robot's punch, Sonic, Tom, and Maddie layed in front of the broken truck, witnessing the emerald break apart. Seemingly set to face death, Eggman stomped upon the three, much to Tails' and Knuckles' dismays. Eggman's victory was shortly lived, because the shining light that was Super Sonic tilted the foot of the machine, tearing through it to face Eggman. Eggman, trying to distract Sonic, punched him with full force, although Sonic simply withheld the attack. First destroying both fists of the robot, he obliterated every part of it, eventually tilting it, resulting in Eggman's demise.
As Sonic settled upon the ground, Knuckles disallowed the Wachowskis not to touch him, telling them Sonic had adapted a new personality. He was proven wrong as Sonic created a chili dog for him and Knuckles. Sonic then unleashed the Chaos Emeralds, relieved to return to his normal state. Tails questioned why Sonic had rejected the possibility of reigning over the entire galaxy, with Sonic answering that he had to grow up further, also liking the fact he was a kid. Following a hug, Knuckles reformed the Master Emerald, asking what they should do with the emerald. Because every previous order of warriors had passed away, Sonic thought he, Tails, and Knuckles should be the current protectors of the emerald, with Tails sealing this idea and promise with a power bump, including Sonic and Knuckles.[2]

Following the battle in Green Hills, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles played a game of baseball at the Green Hills Baseball Field with Tom and Maddie Wachowski, with Sonic serving as both announcer and catcher. After Knuckles used his powerful fist to strike the baseball, Maddie treated the three to ice cream. Knuckles questioned if grapes were included, but Sonic told him that it usually wasn't present. As Tails and Knuckles entered the back of Tom's vehicle, Tom expressed how proud he was of Sonic for finding new friends. Sonic replied he had more than that and called Tom his dad. They both raced to the car to meet up with everyone else and drive away from the field. Sonic ran back to bring the Master Emerald and the cooler before running back.[2]
After noting Wade Whipple's complaint about strange noises coming from the Green Hills Junkyard, he took Tails and Knuckles to investigate it instead of returning books to the library. At the junkyard, Team Sonic came across Unit, a robot searching for parts to upgrade itself. Although he tried to make a plan, Knuckles charged at the Badnik, getting himself stuck in the Green Hills welcome sign. Meanwhile, Sonic grabbed his companion's hand and raced through the scrapyard, eventually bouncing off the enemy multiple times. As he ripped out a piece of Unit, that very piece sprayed a cloud of pinkish smoke into Sonic's eyes. After Unit reflected Tails' bolas, Sonic's legs got tied up. Luckily, Tails was able to fly Sonic upwards before he could've been crushed, but both Sonic and Tails then plummeted to the ground due to Unit's maneuver.
As Unit approached Sonic, mentioning that it thought for itself, Sonic said he did not, stating that it sounded like his creator Doctor Eggman. He asked what Unit, a sentient and conscious being, liked, receiving the reply that he liked poetry. Sonic was glad to hear some poems from him, listening until sunset with Tails. However, Knuckles then appeared, repeatedly punching Unit. Slightly furious, Sonic told him not everything required punching as Tails uncovered Unit from the rubble of his own used items. Tails asked Sonic if he could keep Unit, to which Sonic agreed, but only if Tails took care of it the most. Sonic then flew away using Tails' flight alongside Unit as Knuckles argued that he demanded justice for the destroyed books.[10]
"Knuckles, Tails, and I became friends and roommates! Now, with all the hero stuff out of the way, Knuckles' only mission is to relax and enjoy Earth, which might be harder than it sounds."
A few months later, after Knuckles mistook construction workers as attackers, much to Maddie Wachowski's annoyance, Sonic volunteered to lecture Knuckles and help him come to terms with his new home. He tried to get Knuckles to see the beauty in Green Hills but Knuckles repeatedly refused to see it. Mildly agitated, Sonic then reminded Knuckles that they had defeated Eggman and there was no longer a reason to go on any quest or to keep being an Echidna "warrior" and suggested to make himself at home instead. He left him to meditate on his words as he took off to do something more fun.
Sonic encourages Knuckles to have fun while grounded
Knuckles took Sonic's words to heart, and by dawn the following morning, he made himself a throne at the dining table and turned the living room into a gladiator pit, to Sonic, Tails, and Wachowski's surprise. This further angered Wachowski, who proceeded to ground Knuckles. Knuckles, not knowing how grounding works, tried to argue back with her until Sonic advised him not to, knowing it would make Wachowski more angry. Knuckles reluctantly accepted his grounding with "great honor," and headed upstairs to the attic. Later, Sonic showed Knuckles the fun things he can do while grounded, such as reading comic books, listening to music, playing video games, and imitating viral dance videos, once again trying to convince him of relaxing, before heading back downstairs. Knuckles would end up sneaking out of the house to help Wade Whipple with his quest.[11]
Shortly after Knuckles assisted Wade Whipple against The Buyer and returned to Green Hills,[12] Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles decided to have a movie night at the Wachowski Residence. As they were watching Casper, the appearance of Casper the Friendly Ghost horrified Knuckles, who instinctively gripped both Sonic and Tails' hands. In sudden discomfort due to Knuckles' strength, Sonic and Tails both pleaded to the echidna to let go of their hands as Knuckles screamed in fear.[3]
"You think Longclaw would be proud of me?" "I know she would, pal. Cause even if you lost her at such a young age, you didn't let your pain change who you are in here." "Yeah... In my lungs." "Or your heart."
Sometime later, Sonic, his friends and theWachowskis camped in the forests of Green Hills, Montana, Tails and Knuckles the Echidna preparing to race him though Sonic thought he was invited to go tubing. Ridding himself of his swimwear, Sonic promised Tom to not cause any cataclysmic events during their competition, Sonic taking the lead after Maddie begun the race. Sonic was however surprised to see Tails and Knuckles sprinting past him, prompting Sonic to pick up the pace.
Sonic arrives at his surprise party
Sonic celebrated at the goal plate, but stopped as soon as he saw Tails and Knuckles next to him, who seemingly finished before him. Sonic discovered that the two are holograms, speeding back to the starting point to see everyone surprise him with a party celebrating the day he arrived on Earth. Left speechless, Sonic declared it was time to party.
Sonic later thanked Tom for the surprise party, just then spotting his old cave up ahead. He entered the cave, coming across the drawing he made of his island and Longclaw as to never forget his origins. Tom assured Sonic that Longclaw would be proud of him, as he never let the pain of her death change who he is in his heart. Sonic is also taught that he will always make the right choice if he listens to his heart.[3]
Later, Sonic sat around a campfire roasting marshmallows with his family when a G.U.N. helicopter suddenly hovered above them. As it landed, Tails asked what Sonic had done, replying that he didn't know since he tends to do many things. Out of the helicopter stepped Director Rockwell, who greeted Sonic and his friends as "aliens," offending Sonic. Rockwell then informed them that Commander Walters had requested Team Sonic to assist in neutralizing a situation in Tokyo, Japan.
Team Sonic boarded the helicopter, teleporting to Tokyo via a ring portal. As they approached the city, Sonic asked Tails where to start looking for the threat and then diverted his attention to an explosion in Shibuya Crossing. Opening the helicopter's door, Sonic reassured his team that they could handle anything as long as they stuck together. He then joked about the helicopter ride to Rockwell, calling it a "low-budget flight," before skydiving towards Shibuya.
Upon landing, the team was startled when a car was thrown at them. Knuckles caught it and hurled it aside, revealing a mysterious black Hedgehog stepping out of the smoke. As his friends did, Sonic questioned why the stranger looked like him, only for the black Hedgehog to ask the same. When threatened, Sonic equipped Tails' Titanium Handcuffs and invited the Hedgehog to talk. Instead, the Hedgehog dismissed them, walking away because Team Sonic jumped out of a G.U.N. helicopter. Knuckles, ignoring Sonic's warning, leapt forward to attack. The black Hedgehog swiftly countered, pummeling Knuckles and throwing him into a cart. One by one, he overpowered Sonic's team, though Sonic insisted he couldn't take them all at once.
Despite Tails' disapproval, Sonic was too stubborn not to pursue the Hedgehog, who made his escape on a G.U.N. motorcycle, armed with a laser pistol. Sonic weaved through traffic as he gave chase, quipping along the way, much to his opponent's irritation. The black Hedgehog teleported to the Tokyo Skytree, leaving Sonic behind on the building. As the stranger climbed higher with the motorcycle, Sonic charged his chaos energy and leapt upward, preparing to punch him. The Hedgehog retaliated, jumping downward, and their clash caused a brief blackout across the city. When Sonic came to, he found himself cuffed to a metal bar. Sonic's friends arrived, Tails freeing him while lecturing him on his recklessness, reminding him that he was part of a team. Sonic admitted he was still new to the concept, but figured they needed to regroup and talk with G.U.N. for answers.[3]
Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles the Echidna visited the Chao Garden, a food establishment where they had their picture taken. After teasing Tails for being compared to Detective Pikachu, Sonic greeted Walters, to whom Sonic confirmed that they had questions about the Hedgehog they had recently fought. Walters explained that the Hedgehog, named Shadow the Hedgehog, had a story similar to Sonic's, but instead of finding friends and family, Shadow experienced only pain and loss. Upon learning that Shadow had been placed in cryostasis for 50 years, Sonic deduced that someone must have helped him escape.
During a live show, a swarm of Flying Eggs suddenly bombarded the restaurant with missiles, catching Sonic by surprise. To his confusion, a motorcyclist used his advanced gauntlets to disable the Flying Eggs before driving off. Sonic and the others rushed to the aid of a severely injured Walters, who entrusted Sonic with an Eclipse Cannon keycard, a crucial component of one of G.U.N.'s most powerful weapons. Team Sonic quickly fled the scene before Rockwell and her platoon of soldiers arrived. Rockwell discovered a picture of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in Walters' pocket, deepening her mistrust.[3]
Out of G.U.N.'s sight, Sonic told his team not to trust anyone until they've gotten more information as they pursued the motorcyclist that saved them. Halting him by a dock, the cyclist revealed himself as Stone, whom Sonic and the rest assumed freed Shadow the Hedgehog. Stone denied this, calling the Mecha Crab in which Doctor Eggman had been hiding in since his last defeat.
Invited inside, Sonic couldn't believe Eggman was alive while Tails commented that he never looked worse. As Eggman tracked the location of one that hijacked his Flying Eggs, Tails suggested to partner with him, much to Sonic's dissatisfaction. As per Eggman's one condition, Sonic gave him one of his quills.[3]
Stepping out of a ring portal in front of an abandoned G.U.N. facility, Sonic made it clear to Eggman that they have a mutual dislike, and urged him to make the investigation quick. Eggman brushed past him, calling him a "dorkupine," which Sonic sarcastically acknowledged as clever.
Inside the lab, Sonic wondered whether it might be haunted, reminding a "fearless" Knuckles of the movie night where he was terrified of Casper the Friendly Ghost. Facing three separate hallways, Sonic decided to split the group into three teams, opting to accompany Eggman through the third hallway to keep an eye on him. Eggman remarked on Sonic's "trust issues," to which Sonic retorted that they were justified, given that Eggman had tried to kill him twice already.
As they ventured deeper, Sonic and Eggman stumbled upon a room connected to Maria Robotnik, whose loss had left Shadow devastated. Sonic asked Eggman if he ever wondered what it would be like to have a real family, speculating whether such a life might have steered him away from villainy.
While pondering this, Sonic wandered away from Eggman, drawn toward Shadow's cryo-pod, where he had been raised. As he examined the pod, Shadow teleported behind him, fed up with issuing warnings. Sonic was knocked out by Shadow's punch.[3]
"Shadow, wait! Don't do this. I know you're hurting, but don't let that change who you are inside." "I've spent fifty years reliving what they did to her. This is who I am inside."
When Sonic regained consciousness, he found himself confronted by Doctor Eggman and his estranged grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, the mastermind behind Shadow's release and the attack on Walters. Shadow demanded the keycard Walters had entrusted to Sonic, but Sonic mocked him for assuming they had brought it. Unfazed, Shadow retrieved the key from Tails' backpack. Gerald then elaborated on "Team Robotnik"'s plan: to use the Eclipse Cannon's powerful laser to target the Guardian Units of Nations Headquarters in London, England, with the second key required to activate the weapon being stored at the same location. Sonic's concern of the cannon risking the lives of millions went ignored.
As Eggman and Stone left with Gerald in the Mecha Crab, Shadow teleported to the top of a nearby structure. Sonic tried to reason with him, urging Shadow not to let the pain of Maria Robotnik's death change who he is inside. Shadow, however, retorted that his desire for revenge, fueled by decades of reliving her death, was precisely what defined him. Shadow then dropped a marble, which initially appeared harmless to Sonic. However, he yelped as the orb shattered, unleashing a black hole that began pulling everything toward it. Acting quickly, Sonic used one of Tails' rings to teleport himself and his friends to a nearby cliff, narrowly escaping the black hole's pull.[3]
"You told Tom using the emerald wasn't the right choice!" "Well, now it's the only choice! And if neither of you have the guts to help me, then I'll do it alone."
Sonic and his friends later appeared in the Wachowski Residence through another ring portal, requesting Tom and Maddie's aid with infiltrating the headquarters. Devising a plan to infiltrate the Guardian Units of Nations Headquarters, Sonic suggested simply running in, but Tails warned him about G.U.N.'s deadly force field and laser-filled hallways inside. When Maddie proposed using the Chaos Emeralds to transform into Super Sonic, Sonic refused, reminding them of his oath to keep the Emeralds hidden.
Arriving in London, England, Sonic perched on the London Eye, impatiently asking if the team was ready. He reminded Knuckles to jump from Big Ben to the headquarters only in the case of an emergency, while the Wachowskis worked to grant Tails access to the building's systems. Learning that Team Robotnik was already heading to the vault, Sonic raced through London, passing through an opening in the force field with Tails' help.
Sonic entered the laser hall just as Doctor Eggman and Gerald Robotnik reached the vault, pulled down by the tricky variable gravity tiles. Sonic mocked their struggle but was ignored by Rockwell, who took the keycard for herself. Sonic's explanation of the Robotniks' intention of activating the Eclipse Cannon went ignored as Rockwell suspected him of the same objective. When the rest of the group was captured, Sonic called Knuckles to break into the vault. However, the rubble threatened to crush Tails and the Wachowskis, forcing Sonic to destroy it with a Spin Attack.
After Tom recovered the keycard from Rockwell, Sonic confronted Shadow in the hallway, only to find an unresponsive Tom lying beside him. Shadow coldly stated he had done what he "had to" when Sonic bitterly asked him. Heartbroken as Tom was hospitalized and the Space Colony ARK launched, Sonic resolved to use the Chaos Emeralds despite Knuckles' objections, Sonic being driven by a desire for revenge. Sonic pressuring him, Knuckles revealed that the Master Emerald was under Wade Whipple's protection, as part of their oath was to trust one another.[3]
"You've hurt my family. This ends now!" "Now, you know my anger. The pain I've felt for 50 years! Now, you've made the same choice I did." "I'm nothing like you!" "We'll see."
Super Sonic burst through the Space Colony ARK, grabbing Shadow to confront him about hurting Tom Wachowski. He demanded that their feud come to an end, but Shadow compared Super Sonic's rage and vengefulness to his own, claiming they were no different. Super Sonic denied this before Shadow made him plummet back to Earth. Once there, he stood firm and called out to Shadow, who teleported behind him and struck the Chaos Emeralds out of him. As both Hedgehogs raced toward the falling emeralds, they simultaneously transformed, Sonic reassuming his super form and Shadow becoming Super Shadow.
The battle escalated as Super Shadow hurled Super Sonic into a mountain. Recovering quickly, Super Sonic blocked Shadow's punch and countered with a flurry of strikes, propelling Shadow further away. Their clash brought them to Sounion, Greece, where Super Shadow delivered a powerful kick, sending Super Sonic crashing into the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon. Amid the wreckage, Super Shadow accused Super Sonic of abandoning his friends and family in his pursuit of revenge, doubting his care for them and Wachowski in particular. Enraged, Super Sonic unleashed a devastating blow to Super Shadow's cheek, launching him toward the Moon.[3]
"I learned there's something even more powerful than pain. The love we felt for each other. That's what you need to hold onto, Shadow. Maria may be gone, but your love will always remain." "The light shines even though the star's gone. This whole mess is my fault. I've been so blinded by rage, I thought... I had no choice." "You always have a choice. Making the right one is never easy. One more thing I learned is that when you really screw something up, you can't fix it on your own."
As Shadow landed on the Moon's surface, his super form fading, Super Sonic followed, gripping his chest as he prepared to deliver a decisive blow. Shadow dared Super Sonic to strike, pointing at his heart, which triggered Super Sonic to remember what Tom Wachowski had taught him. Realizing the futility of revenge, Super Sonic sat down in disappointment, understanding that there are no winners in vengeance.
Shadow admitted that the pain from Maria's death was all he had known, while Sonic felt the same in regard of Longclaw's passing. However, he revealed that he replaced his grief with love for he had for her, urging Shadow to do the same. Shadow took responsibility for his revenge plot, confessing he believed his blind rage left him no other choice. Sonic extended his hand, assuring Shadow that there is always a choice, even if making the right one is hard. Shadow accepted, and Sonic taught him that you can't fix a screwup by yourself. Reunited in purpose, the two transformed back into their super forms and flew toward the Space Colony ARK, tearing through a fleet of Gun Hunters dispatched by Gerald Robotnik.
Reaching the Eclipse Cannon, Super Sonic and Super Shadow intercepted its deadly beam, using their combined strength to hold it back from striking Earth. As Super Sonic began to falter, his super form faded just as Tails, Knuckles, and Eggman redirected the laser, saving Earth but splitting the Moon in half. Tails and Knuckles dove after Sonic as he fell, using a ring to bring them all safely into a cornfield.
Looking skyward to see the Space Colony ARK's explosion, Sonic was told that Shadow and Eggman had sacrificed themselves to ensure Earth's safety, realizing that Shadow and Eggman had made their choice. Sonic turned to his friends, asking for their forgiveness for abandoning them. Sonic hugged Knuckles when they forgave him, insisting they refer to themselves as "team" instead of Team Sonic.[3]
Later, Team Sonic and theWachowskis resumed their camping trip, with Sonic decorating a s'more that he and Knuckles promptly devoured. Sonic jokingly pinned the blame on Knuckles. After sharing a heartfelt embrace with a recovered Tom, Sonic joined Tails and Knuckles in another race, which was decisive this time.
In his eagerness, Sonic overshot the finish line and found himself in New York State Park, New York. There, he was ambushed by a robotic lookalike. Dodging its attack, Sonic quipped about its uncanny resemblance, only to realize he was surrounded by a group of 'Metal Sonics.' When they pounced on him, a cloaked pink hedgehog smashed the robots with a throw of her hammer to save him. Sonic, both surprised and intrigued, asked the identity of his rescuer. The figure pulled back her hood, revealing herself to him as Amy Rose.[3]

Sonic is adventurous, lively, fun-loving, and confident. A thrill-seeker who has a passion for enjoying life, he loves running fast and free, which much of his early childhood was spent doing. However, he is also quite impulsive, reckless, carefree and acts before thinking. These qualities tend to make him disobey authority at times, which has gotten himself and those around him into trouble more than once, such as when he used his super speed in the open despite being told by Longclaw not to do so, or when he went into the Piston Pit instead of staying in Tom's truck as he was told to.
Sonic usually keeps a laid-back and easygoing demeanor. However, he is still a kid at heart, and is as such very energetic, talkative, and always ready for new exploits. Owning to his lively spirit, Sonic is happy about going on adventures and is always very enthusiastic about trying new things and ready to see new places. Notably, when he thought he was leaving Earth, this attitude was cranked up to eleven, as he wanted to soak up everything on Earth while he still had the time. Because he is so adventurous however, being constrained can often make him impatient and uneasy, which, at one time made him unable to resist the temptation to visit the Piston Pit.
While no stranger to worry, Sonic is usually fearless and cool under pressure when pushed against the wall, although he can be a bit impatient in serious situations. As such, he is ready to talk back to intimidating thugs and would usually banter with Dr. Robotnik during their violent encounters. This confidence in the face of dangers has given Sonic a mischievous sense of humor; he enjoys toying with his opponents, whether it is by verbally teasing or taunting his foes, or by playing pranks or overwhelming them using his super speed. Sonic also tends to give people nicknames, such as calling Tom "Donut Lord," Maddie "Pretzel Lady," Robotnik "Eggman," and Shadow "New Hedgehog" and enjoys making jokes and pretending to be other people.
Possessing a big ego that stems from his positive attitude, Sonic always tries to be positive, even when he does not want to be, and thinks he can get out of nearly any problem with his powers. This state of mind gives him a cocky attitude, a high opinion about himself, and prompts him to crack jokes in even the worst of situations. His cockiness also extends to pride in his appearance, as he occasionally brags about how good-looking he thinks he is. However, Sonic's ego is not to be confused with pride or arrogance, as Sonic does not see himself as more important than others. In fact, Sonic is very benevolent and shows a lot of friendliness towards most living things he comes in contact with; after saving a turtle from becoming roadkill, Sonic took for a ride so it could experience being fast for a change, although he accidentally traumatized it in the process. A similar instance happened when he met Ozzie despite being miffed that Ozzie held the position as Tom's best friend. Sonic similarly puts others before himself, refusing to put others in danger because of himself, and will risk his life to save innocent people, friends, or even animals. Even when it comes to his enemies, Sonic is willing to rescue them when they face an otherwise unfortunate fate or injury.
After living in self-imposed exile on Earth for ten years, Sonic became extremely lonely and longed to make connections with real friends, with one of the things on his bucket list being to make a real friend. Fortunately, he eventually found a connection in the Wachowski family, and by extension, the inhabitants of Green Hills. Due to his loneliness, Sonic has also developed a habit of talking to himself or inanimate objects when he has no one else to talk to, which is difficult due to his talkative nature, or when he feels alone. Despite his quirks, Sonic is clever and quick-thinking, as shown by him plucking off one of his quills to grab a ring when it was just out of his reach, or taking advantage of Robotnik's obsessive hatred of him to distract him with taunts. Maddie has also described Sonic as a "smart kid".
Having spent much of his life on Earth, Sonic has taken a great interest in Earth's culture, and has picked up many interests and hobbies, such as baseball, playing guitar, watching action movies, keeping tabs on celebrities, and reading comic books. However, Sonic's hobbies, combined with his lack of experience dealing with humans, gives him a slightly unrealistic view of the world and causes him to occasionally act irrationally, such as mimicking the characters in Speed by starting a fight with the people in the Piston Pit. Sonic also has a habit of mimicking heroes from fictional stories, such as comic books and detective movies.
Sonic is highly protective of his powers. After losing Longclaw because others sought his powers, a traumatized Sonic was willing to spend years running away and living in hiding, much to his own frustration and sadness, so that no one would discover him and try to steal his powers. Of course, while living in self-imposed exile on Earth for ten years, Sonic became extremely lonely and longed to make connections with real friends. Luckily, during the climax of his first battle against Robotnik, however, upon realizing that he had people on Earth who cared about him, he resolved to use his abilities to protect his loved ones. In his first conflict against Knuckles, Sonic assumed that Eggman had brought him to take his power, but to his surprise, Knuckles denied seeking his power, showing him that he was much stronger than him.
Sonic's newfound devotion to protecting others also opened his eyes to the superhero lifestyle, which he has gained a taste for due to the excitement it provides. As such, he strives towards becoming a hero in his own right, which is exemplified in the superhero nicknames he comes up for himself. While he sees his heroics as chances to get some thrills in his otherwise peaceful lifestyle, Sonic is nonetheless genuinely motivated by a strong desire to use his powers for good and help people out with them. However, his inexperience as a hero prompts him to act rather reckless and rush into chances to prove himself without an actual plan in mind.
Despite his positive demeanor, however, Sonic possesses something of a vengeful side, which manifests itself when his loved ones are in danger; a prime example being during the climax of the fight for the Master Emerald: after absorbing the Chaos Emeralds and transforming into Super Sonic, rather than quipping or taunting Eggman during their fight, Sonic simply glared at him in unbridled fury and quickly took down his mech with brutal, merciless efficiency before toppling it and supposedly sending the doctor to his demise to ensure he never threatened him, his adoptive family or Earth ever again. When Shadow seriously injured Tom, Sonic desperately sought revenge on him, which caused him to betray his oath to his friends and use the Master Emerald to confront Shadow, being willing to kill him before repenting at the last moment. Thanks to his empathy he could find common ground with him.
Thanks to Tom's advice, Sonic learned to mature and begin to be responsible for his actions to carry out his dream of being a true hero. After Tails almost died in an avalanche, Sonic felt responsible for the risk he put his fan in and realized the meaning of heroism in taking care of others, instead of oneself, demonstrating this phrase when he saved Knuckles, with whom he had a dispute over his attempt to honor the Echidna, but the two became friends when Sonic connected with him so that Knuckles would not have to live alone again. When Eggman tried to crush him and the Wachowskis, Sonic asked Tom and Maddie to flee because Eggman wanted to kill him, but his adoptive parents did not abandon him. In his Super Sonic state, he was able to control his super transformation and began to take seriously the threat Eggman posed to his family and friends.
As the leader of Team Sonic, he gained new wisdom with his maturity and looks for ways to resolve conflicts peacefully. During his battle against Unit, Sonic was able to reason with him thanks to Tails and they made him leave Eggman's evil plans to follow his own dreams, poetry. When he noticed that Knuckles did not get used to Earth at all, Sonic advised him to see Green Hills as his home and seek a purpose, in addition to his oath to protect the Master Emerald. When he met Shadow in Tokyo, Sonic attempted to reason with him before eventually coming into conflict.

Superhuman Speed: Sonic can move at a great, undetermined supersonic speeds, where his perspective is from slow-motion to completely still. This allows him to clear upside-down loops and jump large distances in his momentum.

Accelerated Perception: Sonic has a reaction time that is fast enough to counter an incoming laser moving at near lightspeed and make everything in his environment like time stopping.
Accelerated Thought Process: He is also capable of thinking and processing information at super speed, being able to read through a meter-high stack of comics in about a second.
Superhuman Agility and Reflexes: Sonic's agility and reflexes are noticeably greater than an average human's. He's shown quick enough to dodge most of Knuckles' rapid punches until he gets caught off guard. Before Metal Sonic shot him with its energy cannon, Sonic was able to quickly dodge him after discovering its presence.
Friction Negation: As a side-effect of his speed, Sonic is completely resistant motion while in his speed state, being able to manipulate people and objects without him or them suffering from the effects of acceleration. Notably shown, he was easily able to push Tom away from two roadhouse thugs, play with missiles in midair, and remain dripping wet with seawater after he ran from the Pacific back to Tom's truck across two states.

Spin Attack/Spin Dash: Sonic can perform a falling roll that greatly increases his speed and allows him to break through objects. When he combines his ball form with his power, he is capable of performing a Drop Dash powerful enough to completely total Robotnik's advanced tank, and eventually knock his Egg-Pod a good distance away. In his third fight with Knuckles, his Spin Dash is powerful enough to plow repeatedly through thick layers of stone.
Sonic makes a giant leap from one ocean wave to the next
Water Running: Despite his inability to swim, Sonic is shown fast enough to run above water and even leap in-between colossal waves and briefly regain his momentum, until the waves overexerts him to the point of unconsciousness and risk of drowning.
Hypermetabolism: Likely due to his speed, Sonic has shown to have a fast metabolism. When he was knocked out by one of Tom's tranquilizers, he manages to recover himself from the tranq's effects in minutes.

Bio-Electricity/Chaos Energy Manipulation: Sonic is able to conjure electricity from his body when experiencing strong emotions, such as sadness and anger. When he uses this power, his quills and eyes glow electric blue. According to Tails, Sonic is capable of channeling chaos energy.
Electromagnetic Pulse Emission: When under a significant amount of rage, Sonic once unleashed a powerful explosion which blacked out the entire Pacific Northwest, even more powerful than a typical EMP.
Energy Absorption: He was able to absorb a fraction of his power from the quill Robotnik used on his prototype aircraft.
Enhanced Durability: Sonic has shown incredibly resistance to most damages that would normally wound or kill a normal human. He survived an explosion up close and later a direct missile hit from Robotnik's aircraft while just being knocked unconscious both times. Notably, he is durable enough to negate the affects of motion while in a state of speed.
Enhanced Strength: While inferior compared to Knuckles' raw strength, Sonic is seen trying his best to shove a large broken stone pillar of the crumbling Master Emerald Shrine off of Knuckles, although he was visibly straining himself, partly because of being underwater which made the effort more stressful. That being said, he's strong enough to send Knuckles staggering and even send him flying across the shrine with a powerful, energized punch.

"Sonic, you were the most powerful hero in the universe, and you let it go. Why?" "Because I still have some growing up to do. And I kind of like being a kid."
Chaos Emerald Empowerment/Super Transformation: When infusing all seven Chaos Emeralds into himself, Sonic shall transform in a golden yellow superior form, which grants him unique god-like abilities. He willingly gives up the Emeralds soon after defeating Doctor Eggman, reverting himself back to his original blue form.
Flight: As Super Sonic, he can levitate by himself, and thus controllably flies.
Improved Superhuman Speed: As Super Sonic, he harnesses an enhanced speed level beyond his usual speed. He's even able to completely cut off the Giant Eggman Robot's head like butter. When the Gun Hunters attacked him, Super Sonic managed to destroy them at high speed with the help of Super Shadow.
Improved Reflexes: Adding to his enhanced speed rate, Super Sonic has better reflexes.
Superhuman Strength: As Super Sonic, he has leveled his former levels of strength, being able to lift the stomping foot of the Giant Eggman Robot with near ease and easily stopping its punch without showing any signs of flinching.
Invulnerability: Super Sonic barely acquires any injuries when hit.

Object Creation: What Super Sonic can think of, he can generate from pure chaos energy, as he had summoned chili dogs out of nothing and attempted to give one to Knuckles with a simple tap on nothing.
Energy Blast: He's shown blasting the Giant Eggman Robot's arms with powerful sonic blasts of energy.
Incinerating/Melting Touch: Sonic's super form is mentioned to be harmful to the touch, giving his entire body is able to burn off the Giant Eggman Robot's head clean off. Knuckles warns Tom and Maddie Wachowski that any physical contact with Super Sonic could harm them, with Sonic confirming they would've "blown up" on contact.
Expert Combatant: Even without his speed, Sonic is shown to be fairly skilled in hand-to-hand combat after watching movies and his own self-training. However, he is said to still be inexperienced and unable to handle bigger foes with force alone or even a trained warrior like Knuckles, and had to resort to using his wits. Knuckles has even deemed him unskilled and untrained in the field of combat, but regardless, in close combat, Sonic is highly adaptable in combat skills, such as overpowering punk leader and his thugs in a bar fight, fighting off robots, defeating Dr. Robotnik twice, thwarting attempted robbery, and is able to hold his own with Knuckles on a rematch and fight off the Badniks, created by a emerald-powered Robotnik.
Master Acrobat: Due to his superhuman speed, agility, and reflexes, Sonic can perform acrobatic and gymnastic feats, such as flips, with little effort. He can coordinate his body with perfect balance, equilibrium, flexibility, and dexterity while running at extreme speeds.

Gifted Intellect: Despite his young age, Sonic has shown a some degree in intelligence, as he mostly prefers to fight with his wits. He was even able to drive while reading the driver's manual, but still incapable of understanding the laws of physics. He also shows an adept with improvising as he was able to outrun Robotnik with his Egg-Pod.
Expert Survivalist: After having to escape his home planet and live on Earth in hiding, Sonic was able to live for ten years by decorating his cave with items from dumpsters and use his speed to forage some food.

Sonic's Shoes: Sonic had shoes that were damaged by his running.
Sonic's PUMAs: Jojo granted Sonic new shoes as his old ones were severely damaged.
Rings: Gifted by Longclaw after having to flee to Earth, Sonic uses his ring portals to teleport anywhere at any time. He was to use one to travel to the Mushroom Planet if discovered on Earth, but was hindered as his time was shortened.
Safe Worlds Map: Sonic had a map of worlds and planets he could travel to if his existence was exposed. Later, Sonic discovered that the map contained a hologram of Longclaw that explained about the Master Emerald.
Quills: Sonic's quills have been used by him and others on a few occasions. Sonic himself used a quill to collect one of his rings and took back the power of one stolen by Eggman in order to defeat him. He later had to give one to his enemy in order to form an alliance with him.
Tom Wachowski's Car: When Sonic teamed up with Tom to retrieve Sonic's rings, they together traveled in Tom's car. While fleeing from Robotnik's Badniks, Sonic learned to drive Tom's car during the highway ambush and later to transport himself, Tom, and Maddie to the Transamerica Pyramid.
Wachowski Residence: After saving Green Hills from Ivo Robotnik's plans of world domination, Sonic, with the acceptance of both Tom and Maddie, was permitted to reside in the Wachowski residence. After forming friendships with Tails and Knuckles, Sonic allowed them to live with him in his same room.
Piston Pit: Sonic went to what he dubs "the greatest place on Earth," despite Tom's sense of strictness.
In the video game series, Sonic the Hedgehog is a well-renowned hero and adventurer with a cocky attitude. He usually thwarts Doctor Eggman's forces of villainy and any other bringer of injustice alongside his accomplices and friends, most frequently his bestest friend and "brother" Tails.
Akin to his video game counterpart, Sonic likes to eat chili dogs, ever since he ate several at Piston Pit.[4]
Sonic refers to himself as a southpaw, yet he has a right-handed batting stance and uses his right hand to write. This may indicate that he is ambidextrous.[4]
According to Lindsey, Sonic seems to be around 3 feet tall (1 m).[1] He also weighs 62 lbs (28 kg).[13]
While Longclaw was his guardian as a child, the identity and current status of his biological family is unknown.
While he was observing him, Tails learned that Sonic prefers bubble baths over a shower.[2]
Compared to the first film, Sonic has noticeably grown taller by the time the Knuckles episode The Warrior takes place. This can be seen when Sonic sits down on his beanbag during the episode.
This iteration of Sonic the Hedgehog is the second to sport blue-colored arms after the Sonic Boom character.
His child-like appearance faintly resembles the "Classic Sonic" design seen in pre-Sonic Adventure (inspired) media.
Sonic is often nicknamed the "Blue Devil" by Carl. This is the same name of Metal Sonic's vehicle in Sonic Drift 2.
The Knuckles TV series marks the first Sonic the Hedgehog television series where he does not serve as the main protagonist of the show, as he only appears in the first episode.
Behind the Scenes[]
Sonic is, as confirmed by Jeff Fowler, 13 or 14 years old. Ten years before 2023 equates to 2013, when Sonic should be 3 - 4. This means Sonic was born between 2009 and 2010.[6]
Due to extremely negative reactions centering Sonic's former design since the first poster's release, director Jeff Fowler delayed Sonic the Hedgehog to revamp it, hence the film's February 14, 2020 release date.[14]
The design appears in the 2022 film Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers as Ugly Sonic, a supporting character voiced by Tim Robinson.[15] After being fired from the Sonic the Hedgehog film, he would eventually star in a crime reality series titled Ugly Sonic, Uglier Crimes.
Despite the decent reception of Ben Schwartz's performance, some were rather displeased with the casting choice and instead wanted either Roger Craig Smith or Jaleel White to reprise Sonic's voice. White, a Sonic fan, admitted that he didn't get a call or email from the film's creators. He however approved of Schwartz's performance.[16]
Additionally, Schwartz was cast by coincidence. He came to portray Sonic after Sonic the Hedgehog executive producer Tim Miller suggested he voice the character in a five-minute short designed to pitch the film to potential studios. This occurred after Schwartz noticed Sonic dolls on Fowler's desk at the end of his meeting with Miller. Ultimately, they decided to cast Schwartz in the role.[17][18]
