Synopsis[]
After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.[2]
Plot[]

On his 243rd day since he was banished to the Mushroom Planet, Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik sets off a beacon via hooking up a quill stemming from his mortal enemy Sonic the Hedgehog, which leads scavengers to Eggman's location from a ring portal. However, Eggman tricks the scavengers by using traps he had set up and defeats them. Eggman then runs towards the portal until he sees another entity, Knuckles the Echidna, approaching him. Eggman slips and falls to the ground in surprise as Knuckles sees the quill of his target and asks Eggman where he got it. Eggman happily tells him that he had gotten it from Earth and that he will show him the way.

Sonic the Hedgehog, as a vigilante, stops a car heist
In Seattle, Sonic, who has become a vigilante superhero by the name of "Blue Justice," roughly stops an attempted heist between robbers and the Seattle Police Department and in turn destroys an entire city block. After Sonic successfully stops the heist, he runs back home and tries to sneak inside. Sonic opens his drawer and takes his map out, and notices a feather falling out. Sonic realizes that the feather had once belonged to his former caretaker, Longclaw, and reminisces the good times they had together before the Echidna had attacked her home before putting the map back in the drawer and going to sleep. After being awoken by Ozzie, Sonic remembers to meet Tom Wachowski by the lake thanks to Maddie Wachowski reminding him. At the aforementioned lake, Tom reveals to Sonic that he knew he had sneaked out the previous night and shows him a newspaper from that night. Tom tells Sonic he needs to be more responsible rather than partaking in his heroic escapades, telling him that his moment will come one day. After Sonic tells Tom about the goosebumps he received from Tom's speech and asking him if he stole it from Oprah, Sonic speeds the boat to land.

In the Wachowski residence, Sonic sets a ring portal for Tom and Maddie's trip to Hawaii to attend Rachel's wedding, leaving Sonic and Ozzie to partake in loads of fun activities as they are unsupervised. Meanwhile, Tails visits Earth, specifically Green Hills, in search of Sonic. In order to remain stealthy, Tails drives a Green Hills Sheriff's Department vehicle to approach his location. As Tom called Sonic to see if everything is okay back home, he meets Randall Handel, Rachel's fiancé, who tells him that Rachel does not care about him. As Maddie and Rachel come over, Rachel hugs Tom, warning him not to make her wedding a mess. Sonic, however, witnesses a seeming blackout, which is actually a ring disturbing the area's electric devices. He comes to find out that by the front door, Eggman stands, assuring him of his revenge on everyone who Sonic loves. Sonic proceeds to attempt attacking him, but is thwarted by Knuckles' mighty punch. A fight ensues, during which Knuckles demands the ultimate power: the Master Emerald. Luckily, Tails strikes Knuckles with the car he stole and brings Sonic to his escape. Tails elaborates on Knuckles and what he wants, something Sonic thought was a myth. With Knuckles attacking the fleeing car, Tails saves Sonic by hovering above a cliff as the car drops off of it, exploding while Knuckles clings onto the cliff's side.

Doctor Eggman gets a makeover
After Eggman catched up with a lawn mower, he messages his trusty agent Stone of his return, who closes down his Mean Bean Coffee Café in order to use secret equipment to send a pod containing his Badniks and an upgraded outfit. After Knuckles managed to climb upwards from the cliff, Eggman settles a deal with Knuckles regarding the Master Emerald.

A holographic Longclaw presents the Master Emerald
Sonic and Tails hide in Wade Whipple's garage, witnessing a prerecorded holographic message of Longclaw hidden in the Safe Worlds Map, in which she reveals the Master Emerald's location and how she loves Sonic, entrusting him with the title of the new guardian of the Master Emerald. With the map alternating, a compass to the emerald is revealed, which leads to Siberia. Sonic asks Tails to come along, although Tails is hesitant to do so at first. Sonic however convinced Tails to come as he will protect him, a promise sealed with a fist bump.

Sonic and Tails are surrounded by Knuckles, Eggman and his forces
Sonic and Tails develop a stronger friendship after facing a dance battle with Champ and a group of Siberians, now entering a cave telling the story of the War for the Master Emerald and achieving the compass. The duo are unfortunately confronted by their opponents, who take the compass and cause an avalanche. Sonic must carry an unconscious Tails to Hawaii with Tom's help, interrupting the wedding. Subsequently, the Guardian Units of Nations, a federal anti-alien organization, reveal themselves, taking the extraterrestrials and Tom, attempted savior of them, away to cages in a hotel. Maddie saves them. However, as Rachel reunites with her G.U.N. agent fiancé Randall, the Wachowskis and Sonic meet a green energy beam emitting from a beach afar. Sonic is determined to travel over there and has to pass through a maze with his super speed.

Super Sonic brings Eggman to his fate
Sonic eventually meets the opposing team, battling Knuckles in order for him not to achieve the emerald. But alas, Eggman takes it and uses it to teleport back to Green Hills. Bringing each other to safety, Sonic and Knuckles make amends as Tails brings the two back to town with the Tornado bi-plane. There, they are met with a giant cloud revealed to be Eggman's giant robot replica; the Giant Eggman Robot. The three all effort to damage it, but to no avail, thus gathering together to bundle their powers into one with teamwork. As Sonic runs solo, while Tails and Knuckles infiltrate the robot, Sonic is seemingly defeated by Eggman, and so are the Wachowskis who tried to save him. After Knuckles has extracted the emerald from Eggman with a brutal punch, Sonic absorbs the Chaos Emeralds from it, turning into a god-like entity destroying the mechanism and bringing Eggman to his demise.

Sonic, Tails and Knuckles swear to protect the Master Emerald as Team Sonic
Settling down, Sonic performs a group hug with the Wachowskis and Tails as Knuckles regenerates the Master Emerald with the exception of the Chaos Emeralds, performing a power bump with Sonic and Tails to symbolize the birth of a new team keeping the emerald from potential evils and securing it, while Sonic promotes Tails and Knuckles as his two sidekicks on his adventures. Sometime later, the team and the Wachowskis, along with Ozzie, celebrate the defeat of Eggman by playing baseball in the Green Hills Baseball Field, with Sonic as the announcer/plate catcher, Tails as the pitcher, Knuckles as the batter, and Tom and Maddie as the field catchers, before going out to eat ice cream.

Shadow the Hedgehog awakens after 50 years
When G.U.N. searches the area for signs of the now presumed deceased Eggman, Walters is met with an agent's information over files telling about a secret research facility in which Project Shadow was hosted. The end result of this experiment, Shadow the Hedgehog, awakens.
