The Article Creation Policy serves as a fundamental guideline in determining the necessity of creating a page. The Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe Wiki endeavors to comprehensively cover all aspects of the Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe while upholding a high standard of quality in each article. Consequently, not every potential article warrants creation.
It's essential to note that the absence of an article doesn't necessarily imply it should be generated. However, if a non-existent article contains official and pertinent information from the subject's perspective and aligns with our various policies, it can be created.
This policy specifically addresses the decision-making process regarding article creation. For detailed instructions on the content an article should encompass, please refer to the Manual of Style and the diverse Layout Guides.
In-Universe
Characters
Unnamed or named, Character articles can be created following their debut or mention in official media and if their (voice) actor is confirmed, with the requisite that their Biography section could potentially cover enough relevant information about the character itself. This excludes, particularly, biographies based on explaining the context where the characters were mentioned, or the context of where a list with their names was shown, as these are both examples of information not relevant about the character itself.
In the cases of characters confirmed to appear in Upcoming Media, character articles can be created as soon as enough in-universe details about the character are undoubtedly known, in order to properly write an overview of the character, while the requisite of covering enough relevant information about the character is expected to be fulfilled upon the media's premiere.
The creation of a Character page is disallowed when:
- The character in question lacks relevant biographical information. The character should then be listed in the List of Minor Characters.
- If a character has not enough relevant information, he should be added to the corresponding List of Minor Characters article. Keep in mind that a character from that list can be expanded as a full article if the events surrounding his appearance are written from the character's point of view.
- This includes most background characters, such as bystanders, customers..., as they are usually uncredited for their work, and their biography is not substantial enough to warrant an article.
- The creation of articles for unnamed characters as stubs is strictly not allowed. Instead, add them to the corresponding List of Minor Characters.
- The character has been mentioned (by name). The name should be added in the MENTIONED section of media articles.
- Characters that are only mentioned by name, but lack any relevant information about their own biography should not be created, such as characters appearing in lists, files or newspapers.
- Characters that are both unseen and indirectly mentioned, especially family members of established characters, should be strictly avoided. Usually there is no other relevant information about the character itself than explaining the circumstances of the mention, instead of relevant information about the character. Therefore, it does not follow the rules explained in the Layout Guide for character articles.
Items - Weapons - Vehicles
Item, Weapon or Vehicle articles can be created following their debut or mention in official media.
The creation of an Item/Weapon page is disallowed when:
- The costume of a Character does not equip unique capabilities (unalike Doctor Eggman's Suit).
The creation of a Vehicle page is disallowed when:
- The vehicle is not fictional (e.g. Tom's Toyota).
Locations
Location articles can be created following their debut or mention in official media.
The creation of a Location page is disallowed when:
- The location is a neighborhood or borough. These should be featured in a "Layout" section of the city.
- The location is a lesser subdivision of a region (e.g. the Outback).
- The location is treated as a background establishment, for it has no relevant information.
- The location is a single room or area within a facility (e.g. Wachowski Residence attic). Events to be covered in the History section, a description to be covered in the Layout section.
Species
Species articles can be created following their debut or mention in official media.
The creation of a Species page is disallowed when:
- The species are real-world animals (e.g. Dogs, Porcupines. This would create confusion with "Mobian" creatures' names.
Organizations
Organization articles can be created following their debut or mention in official media.
The creation of an Organization page is disallowed when:
- The organization is a real-life company or team (e.g. Olive Garden, Zillow. Exceptional to organizations with unique histories to tell.
- In case the organization is not unique enough (Armed Forces Services for different countries, Government Agencies, Police Departments for different cities), the articles may be created if they meet, at least, one of the following criteria.
- At least two different named characters portrayed as members of the organization.
- A substantial (not supporting) role in a particular media, event or storyline.
- As such, local police departments or armed forces that have only served as background or incidental players in different events should not be granted their own article.
- In case the organization is not unique enough (Armed Forces Services for different countries, Government Agencies, Police Departments for different cities), the articles may be created if they meet, at least, one of the following criteria.
Events
The creation of an Event page is disallowed when:
- The event does not involve a fight or leave any kind of impact.
Out of Universe
Media
The creation of a Media page is disallowed when:
- The piece of media is rumored to release. The release must first be confirmed by Paramount Pictures or Sega.
- The piece of media has an unofficial title. If the piece of media is untitled, a placeholder name (e.g. Sonic the Hedgehog 4) is preferred.
Subpages
The different templates for Movies or TV series automatically link a page to a series of sub-pages that can be created:
- For /Credits pages, as soon as a major actor and/or crew member (other than regular executive producers like Tim Miller) is confirmed.
- For /Awards pages, as soon as the movie or TV series in nominated for an official award, such as People's Choice Awards, Saturn Awards...
- For /Trivia pages, as soon as any relevant trivial fact is confirmed.
- For /Home Video, as soon as the Home Video release is announced and its features are revealed.
- For /Release Dates, as soon as the Release Date is announced.
Cast - Crew
The creation of a Cast or Crew page is disallowed when:
- The actor or crew member is rumored to be involved with certain media. Their involvement must be confirmed beforehand.
Music
Individual song articles are exclusively generated for tracks explicitly created for the Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe franchise, particularly if they feature original lyrics and are integrated into the media content rather than being exclusive to soundtracks. However, for instrumental scores, all relevant details are consolidated within the corresponding soundtrack articles.
Songs from the mainstream that are featured in the franchise do not merit standalone articles. Instead, links to these songs on platforms like YouTube or Spotify should be included solely within the respective artists' articles. This approach ensures a focused and relevant coverage of musical content within the Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe Wiki.
Gallery
The creation of a Gallery page is disallowed when:
- The images to this gallery has less than ten different images to show.
- The gallery relates to Wars, Events or major Locations (planets, countries, regions, states...).
