Knuckles the Echidna and Stone[src]

Agent Stone is the loyal assistant of Doctor Eggman. He was contracted by the United States Armed Forces alongside Robotnik to investigate the Green Hills Energy Surge. After Robotnik learned of Sonic the Hedgehog's existence, Stone helped his boss pursue the alien and Tom Wachowski to acquire Sonic's power so that Robotnik could conquer the world with his technology.

After his boss was banished to the Mushroom Planet, Stone began working as a barista, although he would later hire a criminal gang, and recover Robotnik's technological glove to control the Badniks. Following Robotnik's manifesto, Stone made his boss Karen and some of her colleagues suffer and then took over the shop by calling it the Mean Bean Coffee Café.

Months later, Stone met Robotnik, now known as Doctor Eggman, again, who had sided with Knuckles the Echidna, and helped him search for the Master Emerald. Eggman used the relic's power to form the Giant Eggman Robot and take over the world, with Stone controlling it for a short while, however, Eggman was defeated by Sonic, Knuckles and Tails. Somehow, Stone managed to survive the robot's destruction, evading capture by G.U.N.

After discovering that Eggman was still alive, Stone and his boss hid for several months in the Mecha Crab until they were reunited with Team Sonic, with whom they briefly allied to discover the signal of hijacked Flying Eggs. Stone eventually ended the alliance and teamed up with Eggman, his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, and Shadow the Hedgehog. After the Robotniks accessed the world ending Eclipse Cannon, Stone tried to warn an ignorant Eggman of Gerald's plans and was fired for his attempts. He however later witnessed Eggman's last message to him, recognizing Stone as his friend, before his sacrifice to save Earth.

Following a Pacific Northwest power outage incident, the United States Armed Forces contracted Doctor Ivo Robotnik to investigate the occurrence. Robotnik and Stone arrived at the Green Hills Baseball Field, where the army were already investigating. With Robotnik taking charge, Stone witnessed a swarm of Flying Eggs flying out through the forests of Green Hills searching for the cause of the anomaly.

Later, in the Mobile Lab, Stone was told by Robotnik that a footprint of a being absent in Earth's animal kingdom had caused the energy surge, claiming it to be a small step for man and a giant leap for him.[4]

Arriving at the Wachowski Residence[]

Open Your Mouth

Stone is forced to listen to Robotnik

"Doctor! Are you okay? I saw a guy race out of here and thought–"
"That you should stop them? Open your mouth and say you thought that you should stop them."
"No, I thought that maybe I should check to see if you were okay...!"
―Stone and Ivo Robotnik[src]

After Robotnik's confrontation with Sonic the Hedgehog and Tom Wachowski, who have fled the stormed Wachowski Residence, Stone rushed inside to see if the doctor was okay. Stone was however strictly reminded of their mission by Robotnik, was told to call Optical Illusions for a new pair of glasses for him and was ordered to bring a quill belonging to Sonic along.[4]

The next day, after a bar fight centering in the Piston Pit, Robotnik's crew visited the bar, requesting the last seen whereabouts of Tom Wachowski to a bar patron. He however refused to reveal any information, leading to violence utilized by both Stone and Robotnik. As they left, Stone wanted to give the doctor a high-five, but Robotnik instead punched him in the abdomen, telling him he left himself open.

Robotnik located the exact location of the runaways, deemed brilliant by Stone, despite Robotnik viewing his remark as a puny compliment.[4]

Highway Ambush[]

Robotnik and Stone

Robotnik takes the quill from Stone

"Did we get 'em? No, no, there they are. They're real survivors, those two."
―Stone[src]

After Robotnik sent Badniks after Tom and Sonic, only for them to be destroyed, Stone remarked how they are masters in survival. Stone was then pinned to the wall as per an order of a frustrated Robotnik, who tell him he cared more about his machines rather than humans such as Stone. He also noticed the blue quill in Stone's pocket from the Wachowski Residence and later analyzed it while he danced to music. Stone then unexpectedly interrupted Robotnik's dance session to deliver him Austrian steamed goat milk.

With the quill beholding limitless power, Stone had the prototype Egg-Pod deployed for Robotnik's confrontation with Sonic, which Robotnik lost by being sent to the Mushroom Planet. Robotnik however had a rock identical to Stone to accompany him.[4]

Robotnik's Contingency Plan[]

"It's the captain. I'm made. The cops are barring down our door. And now someone's sent some kind of giant blue chipmunk after me."
"A what?!"
"I don't know. Some fast-talking little freak. I took care of it."
"A creature matching that description would be… of interest to me. I'd be willing to pay extra to ensure it gets delivered to me in one piece."
"I can deliver him to you, but an extra half million in crypto better make its way to my wallet, and your extraction plan better be here ASAP."
Lindsey and Stone[src]

Stone had contracted Lindsey's crew to steal a Control Glove of Robotnik's from the First Bank of Walla Walla. However, the leaders Lindsey and Jason used said Control Glove for their own gain, taking the vault of money with them via the Flying Eggs, but these Badniks did not follow their orders and deliver the glove to Stone, who stood by the sidewalk.[1]

Conquering Karen's Coffee[]

"Something spooky is happening in this town, man."
"Don't worry. I'm sure you haven't crossed the wrong people... yet."
―Stone to Brayden[src]

Having collected a drive from the glove, Stone uploaded it to his computer to follow Robotnik's manifesto. He tested Robotnik's steps out on a coffee shop, where he offered to shop owner named Karen Austrian goat milk, which she spat out. Since then, Stone was devoted to conquering the café and planned to do so within a week.

Knowing his coworker Tina had lied to him to cover for her while she took off on a vacation, Stone had her car ruined with Crabmeats on Sunday, with her having no way of returning. Stone thus took over her job. Being threatened by assistant manager George, Stone had him taken away by Flying Eggs on Tuesday, taking his job by Wednesday. On Thursday, Stone managed to have Karen arrested for money laundering and called her on Friday, stating that the shop is in good hands. Successfully having followed Robotnik's guide, Stone would design a new name for the shop with his former coworker and now assistant manager Brayden on Saturday.[1]

"Oh! I... uh... I'm sorry folks, I—I have to close early. Everybody out! Everybody out! Thank you for visiting the Mean Bean! Alright, good night! Good night... He's back... He's back!"
―Stone[src]

Shortly after the attack on the Wachowski Residence, Ivo Robotnik, who returned to Earth with aid of Knuckles the Echidna as Doctor Eggman, messaged Stone of his arrival. A depressed Stone received said text and evacuated all current customers out of the Mean Bean Coffee Café. He quickly readied a pod of new equipment for Robotnik by scanning his eye and pressing a button. Happily, Stone was excited by the return of his boss and happily exclaimed his return.

Knuckles and Agent Stone shake hands

Later, Stone dressed in his former suit, preparing a latte with steamed Austrian goat milk for Eggman, which he drank. He however had adapted to the taste of mushrooms due to his banishment. Knuckles entered the shop and is welcomed by Stone, shaking hands with him. However, due to Knuckles' strength, Stone had his hand nearly broken. Stone then revealed to have built a secret laboratory as a new base of operations behind the coffee shop.[2]

Inside the lab, Stone told Eggman that the government erased all records of his identity and deleted his bank account after his disappearance, much to Eggman's frustration. In response, Eggman started a crowdfunding campaign through a fake image of himself hospitalized. Stone admired his plan, but Eggman punched and stomped him, admitting that he missed him.[5] Shortly after, the trio spied on Sonic's messages to Tom. In a low voice, Stone questioned Eggman about his alliance with Knuckles, whom he considered an "imbecile," but Eggman told him that it would be temporary, since when he obtains the legendary Master Emerald, he will be able to take revenge on Sonic and conquer the universe. Stone was left behind by Eggman and Knuckles, who began to see the disloyalty of his supposed friend.[2]

Battle Against a New Order[]

"Incorrectus, my trusty barnacle. After all these years, what I finally got... is a solution."
―Stone and Doctor Eggman[src]

While Eggman was away, Stone searched in the 'Robotnique Boutique' to find alternate outfits for Eggman to wear. He was then abruptly ambushed by temporary sheriff Wade Whipple and was handcuffed to a chair, seemingly being threatened by Wade with a butter knife, asking him what he wants on his bagel. Refusing to tell him anything besides informing him that he is holding a display bagel, Stone and Wade witnessed a sudden change of lighting in the Mean Bean Coffee Café, only for Eggman to appear. He was now supercharged via the Master Emerald, and freed Stone, who informed him of G.U.N. arriving at the coffee shop.

'Stache Smasher

Stone informs Eggman of the 'Stache Smasher

Stone was taken with Eggman as his giant robot was being built, being its co-pilot. Inside the robot, Stone admires Eggman's power, who claims it was obvious and begins his plans to destroy Green Hills. Surprisingly, Sonic, his friend Tails and Eggman's former ally Knuckles appeared to stop him, with Eggman thus ordering Stone to shoot them. Stone struggles to find out how, leading to Eggman taking over the control panel. Stone later learned how to use the 'Stache Smasher to take down Tails' Tornado bi-plane, but was knocked out by Sonic's missile attack.

Sonic and his team later managed to defeat and allegedly kill Eggman by crashing his mechanism, but Stone survived the fall and disguised himself as a G.U.N. soldier.[2] Walking away from the soldiers, Stone was reunited with Eggman, who had surprisingly survived the fall and found him with his body completely injured. The two managed to evade capture by hiding underwater in the Mecha Crab, where Stone filled Eggman with bandages and cared for him during his recovery. While Eggman wallowed in his defeat, sinking into a deep depression and becoming a slacker, he occasionally ventured out to update his boss on the situation above, ensuring they stayed informed of the events unfolding on the surface.[6][3]

Hiding Out[]

Months later, Stone discovered that a swarm of Flying Eggs had been deployed at the Chao Garden, Tokyo, without Eggman's authorization. Armed with advanced gauntlets, he set out for the site on his motorbike. During the attack, Team Sonic found themselves cornered by the hijacked drones until Stone arrived, hurling several discs to disable them. Using his gauntlets, he powered down the remaining drones, leaving the team astonished. When they tried to ask his identity, Stone gave no response and quickly left the scene.[3]

Reunion with Team Sonic[]

"Why did you free Shadow?"
"Are you kidding? The last thing we want is more superpowered Hedgehogs running around. The doctor had nothing to do with it... and I can prove it. Please, join me in the Crab."
Tails and Stone[src]

Stone continued riding his motorbike, only to realize he was being pursued by Team Sonic, who chased him until cornering him at the Tokyo Bay. Trapped, he revealed his identity, quickly recognized by Knuckles as the "Goat Milker." Stone mocked him in return, telling them to relax as he had not come to fight. The team immediately accused Eggman of being behind the attack, but Stone denied his boss' involvement. Instead, he offered to show them the truth, summoning the Mecha Crab in front of them and politely inviting them to proceed.

EggmanShaved

Inside the Badnik, Stone interrupted Eggman, revealing he had brought Team Sonic with him, which infuriated Eggman. However, his frustration shifted to rage when Stone showed him footage of the Flying Eggs attacking the Chao Garden, a hijacking traced back to an imposter at his location. Believing Shadow the Hedgehog might also be there, Team Sonic offered an alliance, which Eggman begrudgingly accepted after Sonic handed over a quill. Eager to resume his schemes, Eggman ordered Stone to shave his head, style his mustache, and stand guard while he changed. When Eggman demanded his suit be resized to accommodate his increased weight like Elvis Presley's style, Stone protested that he lacked the materials, leading Eggman to tear a strip from Stone's shirt and command him to get to work.[3]

Shadow and Gerald Robotnik's Revenge Plot[]

"So, what's it like being Sonic's assistant? Daily routine? Paid time off? Benefits?"
"Oh, I'm not Sonic's assistant. We're teammates! He's the leader, Knuckles is the muscle, and I'm the gadget guy. We all have a role to play. That's what makes the team so special. That and the fact we're best friends."
"You are?"
"Yeah, just like you and Eggman, right?"
―Stone and Tails[src]

After finishing sewing the suit for Eggman, Stone, his boss and Team Sonic crossed a ring portal to an abandoned facility belonging to G.U.N.. As Eggman tried to open the door, Knuckles effortlessly knocked it down with a single blow, clearing the way for the team to enter. Inside, they were greeted by the rubble and remnants of the decayed facility. As they walked, Knuckles momentarily panicked, thinking there might be ghosts. Stone mocked him for his fear, which Knuckles tried to deny, but Sonic teasingly reminded him of how frightened he had been while watching Casper. Upon encountering three different doors, Sonic suggested splitting up into three groups.

He assigned Tails and Stone to take the left door, Knuckles to the middle, and he would head right with Eggman. In the hallway, Stone remarked to Tails that he found him adorable, a compliment Tails appreciated. When Stone asked what it was like to be Sonic's assistant, Tails denied being his assistant, explaining that he, Sonic, and Knuckles are teammates and best friends, which surprised Stone. Tails then compared their friendship to the relationship between Eggman and Stone, prompting Stone to hesitantly admit that he wasn't sure his boss saw it that way. Suddenly, both turned to see Shadow standing behind them. They screamed in horror, but before they could react, Shadow swiftly knocked them out and captured them.

Jealous Stone

Stone is excluded by Eggman and Gerald

Later, Stone and the team were tied up by Shadow. When they woke up, they discovered that Eggman had teamed up with his newly found grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. Eggman noticed Stone was tied up and scolded him, calling the situation "disgusting," before untying him. Stone joined "Team Robotnik" to help carry out Gerald's revenge plot: infiltrating the G.U.N. Headquarters to retrieve the last keycard needed to activate the Eclipse Cannon. Agreeing to the plan, the team left the facility in the Mecha Crab while Team Sonic dealt with a mini black hole released by Shadow. During the four-hour journey to London, England, Stone tried to bond with Eggman and Gerald in their virtual reality system. However, he felt excluded by his boss and removed his headset, jealous of the growing relationship between Eggman and Gerald.[3]

Infiltration into G.U.N. Headquarters[]

"I don't think your grandfather's been completely honest with us. Something Shadow said. There's more to their plan."
"How... dare you?! You've been jealous of my long-lost grand-pop tart since the very beginning. I no longer require your obsequious groveling. Consider this your notice of termination. Your letter of reference will be 'L' for loser. Of course, I'll expect you to stay on until you've been successfully cloned, but you and I... are done! Like a blackened catfish dinner!"
―Stone and Doctor Eggman[src]

Through the sewers, the Mecha Crab transported Team Robotnik to the surface, where Eggman celebrated their successful arrival in London. As Shadow grew increasingly consumed by his desire for revenge, Gerald instructed him to remain patient while he and Eggman infiltrated the G.U.N. Headquarters to retrieve the last keycard. To assist in the infiltration, Stone provided Eggman and Gerald with spandex suits. Meanwhile, Stone tried to lighten the mood by inviting Shadow to join him at the Crab, suggesting they prepare guacamole together.

Stone is fired by Eggman

Stone tries to warn Eggman about Gerald

Shortly after, Stone noticed Shadow cynically commenting on the soap opera, La Última Pasión, and attempted to lift his spirits, suggesting that if the mission succeeded, the team could rule the world. However, Shadow coldly replied that once their mission was complete, there would be nothing left to rule, leaving Stone confused. Suddenly, Tails located the Crab and hijacked its drainage system, attempting to sink it. Fortunately, Stone escaped the Mecha Crab and quickly contacted Eggman, attempting to warn him about deeper layers to Gerald and Shadow's plans. However, Eggman misinterpreted Stone's concerns as jealousy toward his grandfather and decided to fire him, hurling hurtful words. Still reeling from his failure to protect Eggman, Stone could only watch as the team successfully deployed the Space Colony ARK and launched into space.[3]

Eggman's Last Message[]

―Stone[src]

At night, Stone stayed in London, watching as the Eclipse Cannon's laser targeted Earth, only to be successfully deflected by Team Sonic, Eggman, and Super Shadow. However, the imminent explosion of the Space Colony ARK's core threatened to create a radioactive atmosphere across the planet. In a moment of resolve, Eggman chose to sacrifice himself to stabilize the core. Before doing so, he broadcasted a final livestream to Stone, expressing gratitude for being the one person who genuinely cared about him. Despite Stone's pleas for him not to go through with it, Eggman acknowledged their bond, referring to Stone as more than a sycophant, but as a "syco-friend." As the explosion consumed Eggman, Stone, overwhelmed with grief, tearfully bid him a final goodbye before leaving.[3]

Personality[]

"A true shame that anonymous tip proved your crimes were an open-and-shut case, Karen. But don't worry about the coffee shop... It's in much better hands now."
―Stone to Karen[src]

Agent Stone is a very calm and level-headed man, which contrasts greatly with his eccentric boss. He is likewise very formal and notably professional in behavior and speech. He is also a quite polite and advocate person, often showing admiration and giving praise to those that amaze him. Stone has also proven himself to be extraordinarily tolerant, namely by enduring Robotnik's physical and emotional abuse and verbal berating of him without showing any more than a rare and quiet exasperated sigh. He is also very obedient, always carrying out the orders of Robotnik no matter how he has been treated.

Despite his largely neutral demeanor, Stone is very much an ambitious and amoral man, much like Dr. Robotnik himself. Noted to be practically a genius in comparison to the rest of the human race that Robotnik frowns down upon, Stone shares much of Robotnik's worldview and thus sees everyone, except for Robotnik, as basic beings that he does not seek relationships with, and works towards building himself into an instrument of pure science while giving himself no time to please the prattle of the masses. Stone also looks down on those he sees as unintelligent, such as insulting Knuckles behind his back due to his lack of understanding of Earth's customs. However, Stone can also be friendly and polite to his allies, as shown when he offered Knuckles a handshake and welcomed him to his team when Robotnik told Stone he was their new ally. With the tools and philosophy of Robotnik's, Stone has as well proven himself highly intelligent, manipulative, careful, and patient, namely by steadily and subtly advancing himself into control of a small establishment within a week using underhanded and immoral methods. He is also quite vindictive, although not open about it, and plots revenge against anyone who he deems to have wronged him, whom he will taunt with calm superiority as a display of his intellectual power once he has defeated them. To him, all the relationships he makes, save solely for Robotnik, are only an alliance intended to bring him benefits.

Stone cares deeply for Eggman, viewing him not just as a boss but as a friend, though he believes Eggman doesn't feel the same way. When he disappeared for the first time, Stone fell into a deep depression, missing him greatly. His spirits were lifted when Eggman eventually returned, this time with the help of Knuckles, filling Stone with immense joy and relief. When Eggman began spending more time with his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, Stone became jealous of the bond they shared, feeling excluded and longing for the same connection with his boss. As Stone discovered there was more to Gerald's plans than Eggman let on, he desperately tried to warn him. However, Eggman dismissed his concerns and, in a fit of anger, fired Stone, leaving him devastated. Stone feared that, once again, he would lose Eggman, plunging him back into a deep sense of loneliness and sadness. Watching Eggman's final livestream dedicated to him, Stone, overcome with emotion, tearfully begged his boss not to sacrifice himself. In his supposed last moments, Eggman, with his usual mix of arrogance and sincerity, thanked Stone for loving him and, with a rare moment of vulnerability, accepted him as a "syco-friend." After Eggman's presumed death, Stone, heartbroken and devastated, bid his boss a final farewell, gazing up at the sky as he processed the loss.
