A Super Transformation is the transcendence of power in one's state of being via the seven Chaos Emeralds, granting them enhanced or new abilities and a golden aura.
A super transformation, accessible when using the seven mystical Chaos Emeralds or fully making use of the Master Emerald's power, bestows the one being transformed immeasurable power comparable to those a god would have, as well as a change of appearance and a hot aura.
The transformer achieves new abilities, which may include flight and the ability to wish anything into existence, and has their previously established capabilities enhanced, such as their speed or strength being far greater than before.
It was thought that a super transformation would alter one's mind, Knuckles once claiming that Sonic, who transformed during the Battle Against the Giant Eggman Robot, would no longer be the same, only to be proven otherwise.

Though the Wachowskis seemed crushed by the robot's foot, Sonic emerged as Super Sonic, lifting it up as its material melts before slicing through it to confront Eggman, telling him it's "over." Super Sonic facilely stops Eggman's surprise attack and begins tearing a plethora of holes through the robot before finally tipping it over, prompting Eggman's demise. Super Sonic then finally settled down and relinquished the Chaos Emeralds after eating a chili dog he summoned.[1]
"The emerald must never be wielded for vengeance. Not ever. We swore a sacred oath." "Don't talk to me about oaths. Not now." "But you told Tom using the emerald wasn't the right choice." "Well, now it's the only choice! And if neither of you have the guts to help me, then I'll do it alone."
Despite Knuckles' disaccord, he revealed said location as part of the oath was to trust each other. Sonic thusly arrived at the Green Hills Sheriff's Station, taking the emerald from deputy sheriff Wade Whipple to transform into Super Sonic. As the ARK ascended, deploying the cannon, Super Sonic burst through one of the space station's windows, dragging Shadow the Hedgehog, the one who injured Tom, along. Super Sonic demanded that their fued must end after what Shadow did, Shadow retorting that he saw himself in him, making extreme choices in vengeance, to Super Sonic's denial. Shadow had him crash back into Earth, where Super Sonic lost sight of Shadow. Shadow teleported behind Super Sonic, striking the Chaos Emeralds out of him.
Sonic and Shadow both ran towards the falling emeralds, simultaneously transforming into Super Sonic and Super Shadow respectively. Super Sonic attempted to punch Super Shadow, only for the latter to effortlessly deflect the attack and punch him back, pummeling him and throwing him into a mountain. Super Sonic tried to get up, but was pinned down, catching Super Shadow's attempted blow towards his face and springing off the mountain. Dragging Super Shadow across the ground's rubble, Super Sonic threw him and repeatedly punched him further away across the world, passing Giza, Egypt by.[2]
Super Sonic and Super Shadow eventually brought their fight to Sounion, Greece, where Super Shadow kicked Super Sonic from behind into the Temple of Poseidon. When Super Sonic crashed into the temple's ruins, Super Shadow descended before him, scolding him for his abandonment of his friends and family in favor of revenge and doubting his care for them and Tom Wachowski in particular. Super Sonic, deeply enraged, screamed as he boosted upward to deliver a powerful strike upon Super Shadow's cheek, blowing him towards the Moon. Shadow's transformation faded as he landed upon the Moon's surface, Super Sonic following suit and grabbing him by the chest. Preparing to deliver a finishing blow upon his chest, he was reminded of Wachowski's lecture, having forgotten that he mustn't let pain change him and that the right choices come from the heart. He sat by himself dissapointedly as his super form faded.
Sonic and Shadow shared the fact that they both have lost lovedones and grief over them, Sonic advising Shadow to hold onto the love he felt for his. Shadow admitted that he is at fault for recent events, stating that it felt that his blind rage left him no choice but to carry out his revenge plot with Gerald Robotnik. Sonic offered a hand to Shadow, responding that he always has a choice though making the right one isn't easy. Also sharing that you can't fix a mess alone, Sonic and Shadow shook hands, reassuming their super forms, and flew towards the prepping Eclipse Cannon. They continued to fly towards the cannon after working together to destroy a fleet of Gun Hunters deployed by Robotnik, struggling to withstand the cannon's laser from impacting Earth.
Thanks to Tails, Knuckles and Eggman, the cannon and its laser were steered away from Earth before Sonic could faint and lose his super form. Tails and Knuckles followed an unconscious Sonic rapidly entering Earth's athmosphere while Super Shadow teleported aboard the Space Colony ARK, much to Eggman's shock. When asked what is happening, Eggman revealed that the ARK's core has become overcharged with Shadow's chaos energy, threatening all life on Earth if it were to eventually explode. Super Shadow ordered Eggman to use his nanosuit to stabilize the core while he pushes the ARK away from Earth's reach. Super Shadow took off his power-subduing Limiter Rings to perform this action, reminiscing about the time he spent with Maria Robotnik as he did. The ARK finally imploded, though Shadow managed to survive thanks to his super form.[2]

In the video game series, the super transformation, super form or the Super State is a transformation granted to a user primarily when exposed to the Chaos Emeralds or its energy.
Appearing in early drafts of Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Sonic and the Chaos Emeralds were eventually cut from the final film. Director Jeff Fowler preferred developing Sonic and Eggman's relationship further before introducing things like Super Sonic.[3]
