"Oh, I'm not Sonic's assistant. We're teammates! He's the leader, Knuckles is the muscle, and I'm the gadget guy. We all have a role to play. That's what makes the team so special. That and the fact we're best friends."
Team Sonic was recruited by G.U.N. to help recapture Shadow the Hedgehog, but were ultimately defeated. Seeking answers, they met with Commander Walters, whose death led them to align with Eggman. Sonic began to stray away from his friends as Eggman left for "Team Robotnik," both teams infiltrating G.U.N. Headquarters. Team Sonic enlisted Tom and Maddie Wachowski's aid, Shadow injuring the former. Sonic and Shadow fought and reconciled, stopping the Eclipse Cannon. Tails and Knuckles saved an exhausted Sonic plummeting towards Earth, the team embracing as they reunited, grateful for their bond and Eggman and Shadow's sacrifices.
"Look we aren't strong enough to beat Robotnik on our own, but there's three of us. Your strength, your smarts and my speed, together. That's how we win." "So we make our stand here on the field of battle." "As a team!" "This is it. This is our moment."
After Sonic the Hedgehog made amends with Knuckles the Echidna, who have been fighting against each other for the Master Emerald, Sonic's friend Tails flew them back to Green Hills with the Tornado bi-plane, only to meet a storm cloud creating Doctor Eggman's Giant Eggman Robot with the emerald. As Sonic began to plan their attack, Knuckles jumped off the plane, thus changing the plan to light taunting. He and Tails then faced a barrage of missiles they manage to evade, until Sonic was hit by one. Eggman briefly celebrated until he spotted Knuckles charging towards him, delivering a mighty punch upon the robot's hand, which caused a small amount of damage. Tails tried to fire explosive bullets on the robot, but had the Tornado destroyed. Sonic came back with the missile he was hit by, having it impact the robot.
Grouping together, Knuckles noted that their best attacks came to no avail, but Sonic assured him and Tails that they can defeat them by working together, marking this as their moment. While fending off supercharged Badniks, Tails suggested finding Eggman's weak spot when Sonic announced he had no plan. Knuckles then suggested to attack the groin, much to Sonic's disgust. Running towards the robot when attacked by missiles, Sonic realized he is Eggman's weak spot and planned to distract Eggman while Tails and Knuckles attack him. Although Tails and Knuckles managed to retrieve the Master Emerald, Sonic had been heavily injured, finding the emerald that lied near him. When he acquired it, Tom and Maddie Wachowski rescued him from being squished by the robot's foot with a truck that flipped over.
Surrounded by a ring of fire, the emerald broke into seven Chaos Emeralds that Sonic absorbed moments before being crushed by Eggman as Tails and Knuckles wept. Super Sonic fortunately arose, defeating Eggman once and for all and reuniting with his friends and family afterwards when turning back to normal. Knuckles reformed the emerald and pondered what to do with it, Sonic suggesting to start a new order that would protect the emerald. With Knuckles saying they must make a vow, he performed a power bump with Tails and Sonic.
The team leaves for ice cream
Team Sonic would later play baseball at Green Hills Baseball Field, where Knuckles celebrated after hitting the ball dangerously hard into the scoreboard, which Tails deemed unfair. Maddie invited the team for ice cream as Tom told Sonic he is proud of him for finding a "squad."[1]
"And thus ends one adventure for Team Sonic. But their greatest adventure was just beginning. The quest of picking up some chili dogs on the way home!"
By deputy sheriff Wade Whipple's request, Sonic had his teammates investigated the Green Hills Junkyard instead of returning Maddie's books to the library. They came across Unit, a Flying EggBadnik scouring for junk to upgrade itself with so it can rule the world under Doctor Eggman's command. Knuckles charged at the robot, but was flung into a billboard. Sonic ran with Tails in hand when targeted and attacked it, only to be blinded by a component of his. Tails attempted withholding Unit with a bola, but captured Sonic by accident instead. He then tried hovering Sonic away, but was pulled down by Unit.
Sonic tried to talk to Unit, following Tails' suggestion, having him reveal his passion of poetry. He recited poems to Sonic and Tails, who listened attentively until Knuckles reappeared to fight Unit. Tails rescued Unit, who had now lost his body parts, and asked Sonic if they could keep him. Sonic permitted this and left the scene, narrating that he and his friends would eat chili dogs on the way back home.[4]
"And then, Knuckles, Tails, and I became friends and roommates! Now, with all the hero stuff out of the way, Knuckles' only mission is to relax and enjoy Earth, which might be harder than it sounds."
In the months they've spent on Earth, Tails and Knuckles began settling into the Wachowski Residence, where Sonic shared his room with his new friends. Sonic would spend time relaxing and listening to music, Tails would often configure his Miles Electric and make new inventions, and Knuckles would mostly exercise. After Knuckles chased away a team of repairmen working on the house, Sonic and Tails worried about him not taking a break from being a warrior and talked about the situation with Maddie. Sonic tried to advise Knuckles to rid himself of his warrior instinct in lightof Eggman or another threat's absence, as well as to treat the planet as his new home.
Knuckles misinterpreted Sonic's advice, however, surprising his teammates and Maddie with the creation of an iron throne and a gladiator pit in the living room, where Ozzie would challenge a mailman. Because of this, Maddie grounded Knuckles to the attic, who had the verb explained to him by Sonic and Tails. Knuckles, initially offended, accepted Maddie's grounding. Laying upon the attic floor, Sonic attempted to cheer his friend up by suggesting various activities to help him pass the time only for knuckles to plot his revenge on Sonic.[2]
When Knuckles returned from his quest,[6] he adamantly refused to reveal the new location of the Master Emerald to his teammates, staying true to his duty as its guardian and aware of the relic's dangerous power. Eventually, the trio had a movie night to watch Casper, but Knuckles screamed in terror upon seeing the character Casper the Friendly Ghost, gripping Sonic's and Tails' hands tightly. The two struggled in pain, desperately trying to free themselves from Knuckles' hands.[5]
Later, Team Sonic, Tom, Maddie, and Ozzie went camping in the woods. Behind Sonic's back, the Wachowskis, Tails, and Knuckles planned a surprise party to celebrate Sonic's anniversary on Earth, which Maddie called the "Bearthday." To distract Sonic, who thought they were going tubing, Tails and Knuckles challenged him to a race, using holograms to keep him busy while they finished preparations. When Sonic returned, everyone surprised him, explaining the party was to thank him for changing their lives. Touched, Sonic expressed his gratitude before joining the celebration.[5]
At night, Team Sonic, Tom and Maddie roasted marshmallows, enjoying a moment of relaxation. However, their peace was interrupted by the arrival of a G.U.N. helicopter. From it descended Director of G.U.N., Rockwell, acting under Commander Walters' orders, to recruit them for a dangerous mission in Tokyo, Japan. Although Knuckles wasn't fond of the team's name, the trio agreed to the mission and departed in the helicopter, using a ring portal for faster travel. During the journey, Sonic and Tails noticed a trail of destruction, prompting Tails to equip them with his Titanium Handcuffs as they joined hands to prepare. However, Knuckles insisted the team should be called "Team Knuckles."
After Sonic jokingly teased Rockwell about the trip, Team Sonic leapt from the helicopter, landing at the Shibuya Crossing, where Knuckles saved them from being hit by a G.U.N. truck. Suddenly, Team Sonic spotted Shadow the Hedgehog, who mocked the team for their variety of colors and quickly drew comparisons to Sonic. Sonic attempted to reason with him, asking him to surrender peacefully, while Knuckles desperately insisted on fighting. The black Hedgehog refused, reprimanding them for affiliating with G.U.N. and warning them to stay out of his way if they didn't want to get hurt. Ignoring his friends' warnings, Knuckles charged at the Hedgehog, who effortlessly defeated him.
Sonic and Tails quickly rushed to help Knuckles up and regrouped to attack the black hedgehog together. However, the black hedgehog managed to knock them all down before retreating with a laser pistol and a G.U.N. motorcycle. Sonic, ignoring Tails' warnings, chased after him, but was eventually defeated and handcuffed with Tails' handcuffs at the Tokyo Skytree. After a brief power outage, Tails and Knuckles arrived at the building and freed Sonic, reminding him that they needed to stick together as a team. Confused about the mysterious Hedgehog's appearance, Sonic decided to seek answers from G.U.N., prompting Tails to say he knew the perfect place to go.[5]
Following Tails' suggestion, Team Sonic visited the Chao Garden, a popular establishment in Tokyo. While being photographed with the Chao, Knuckles suspected it was an ambush, but Tails reassured him. Shortly after, a little girl mistook Tails for Detective Pikachu, prompting Sonic and Knuckles to tease him. Later, Walters arrived at the restaurant, relieved to see the team safe. Sonic quickly questioned him about the black Hedgehog, whose name was revealed to be Shadow the Hedgehog. Walters explained that Shadow's backstory was similar to Sonic's but filled with loss and pain. The team learned that Shadow had fallen to Earth on a meteorite, leading to the creation of the Project Shadow. Walters recounted that after an accident, Shadow was placed in cryostasis on Prison Island indefinitely until his escape.
While suspecting that someone must have awakened Shadow, Team Sonic and Walters were startled when the lights went out, initially thinking it was part of a live show, only to be ambushed by a swarm of the Flying Eggs launching missiles at the restaurant. Surrounded by the drones and confused, they questioned how the Doctor Eggman could be involved, as he was presumed dead. They were saved by a mysterious motorcyclist who disabled the drones with his advanced gauntlets. In the aftermath, the team found Walters gravely injured in the wreckage. Before passing away, he entrusted them with a keycard to activate a powerful G.U.N.weapon. Shaken and distrustful of the organization, Team Sonic fled the scene wearing Chao masks to avoid detection.[5]
Seeking more answers, Team Sonic pursued the motorcyclist to the Tokyo Bay, where they discovered it was agent Stone, Eggman's loyal assistant. Knuckles immediately recognized him as the "Goat Milker." Sonic quickly accused Stone of being behind Shadow's awakening, but Stone denied the allegations, claiming neither he nor Eggman had any involvement and that they wanted no more hedgehogs on Earth. To prove their innocence, Stone deployed the Mecha Crab from the bay and politely invited them aboard for a demonstration.
Inside the Mecha Crab, the team reunited with Eggman, who had fallen into a depressive spiral following his previous defeat against the team. Eggman's significant weight gain left the trio both disgusted and shocked by his survival and appearance. After discovering the location of the person who had hijacked his Flying Eggs, Tails and Knuckles suggested teaming up to find both the culprit and Shadow. Reluctantly, Sonic offered an alliance to Eggman, who accepted on the condition that he receive one of Sonic's quills and be allowed to begin improving his appearance.[5]
"I'm not letting you out of my sight. Tails, you and Stone go left. Knuckles, you take the middle. Eggman, you and me go right." "By all means. We can use some time together to work on your trust issues."
Through a ring portal, Team Sonic, Eggman, and Stone arrived at an abandoned facility once owned by G.U.N.. When Eggman attempted to open the door with his skills, Knuckles smashed it down with a single punch, frustrating Eggman but allowing the group to enter and observe the wreckage inside. Sonic jokingly wondered if there might be ghosts, briefly scaring Knuckles, who quickly denied being afraid, though Sonic reminded him of how scared he was during their last movie night watching Casper. When they reached three doors, Sonic suggested splitting up: Knuckles would take the middle door, Tails and Stone the left, and Sonic would go with Eggman through the right, keeping a close eye on him to ensure he didn't try to escape.

Individually, Shadow captured Team Sonic and Stone, tying them up in part of the lab. Upon waking, Sonic and his friends realized Eggman had betrayed them by teaming up with his recently discovered grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, who had awakened Shadow and led the attack on Walters. Shadow took the keycard from Tails' backpack and handed it to Robotnik, who revealed the "Team Robotnik" plan: to retrieve the second keycard from G.U.N. Headquarters in London, England, and activate the Eclipse Cannon to destroy the HQ as revenge. Ignoring Sonic's warnings, Shadow unleashed a Black Hole Orb to absorb the facility and the team before leaving in the Mecha Crab. Just in time, Knuckles grabbed onto a rope, and Sonic used a ring from Tails to escape, narrowly avoiding the black hole, though they watched in horror as much of the island was consumed.
Team Sonic teleported to the Wachowski Residence through another ring portal, where Sonic quickly asked Tom and Maddie for help with the mission. Eager for some action, they happily agreed. After regrouping, the team and the Wachowskis devised a plan to retrieve the keycard before Team Robotnik. Tails outlined the strategy: the Wachowskis would infiltrate G.U.N. HQ and insert a USB into the servers to disable the defenses, allowing Sonic to bypass the force field and laser hallway to reach the vault, with Knuckles standing by for emergencies. When Maddie suggested using the Master Emerald, Sonic refused, citing the team's oath and Knuckles' unwillingness to reveal its location. Trusting Sonic's judgment, the Wachowskis agreed and set off for London.[5]
"But you told Tom using the emerald wasn't the right choice." "Well, now it's the only choice! And if neither of you have the guts to help me, then I'll do it alone." "But I thought the three of us were a team? I thought that's what made us special."
Upon arriving in London, Team Sonic assumed their respective positions while Tom and Maddie, disguising themselves as Randall Handel and Rachel, gained access to G.U.N. headquarters. During the infiltration, Sonic and Knuckles grew restless, eager to take action, until the Wachowskis successfully inserted the USB into the server room, connecting it to Tails' laptop. Tails soon detected Team Robotnik already inside the HQ. With Tails' help, Sonic entered the building and reached the vault, but he, Eggman, and Robotnik were caught in the variable gravity system designed by Rockwell. Knuckles rushed in to rescue them but accidentally disrupted the system. Meanwhile, Tails and the Wachowskis were nearly crushed by a giant boulder, but Sonic transformed into a ball and launched himself to destroy it, saving them just in time.
After Shadow gravely injured Tom, mistaking him for Walters and stealing the keycard, Tails, Knuckles, and Maddie joined Sonic around Tom's unconscious body, watching in distress as Team Robotnik deployed the Space Colony ARK from the River Thames. With alarm, they saw paramedics take Tom away, accompanied by Maddie. Despite Tails and Knuckles' attempts to console him, Sonic, consumed by a need for vengeance against Shadow, ignored their pleas and demanded Knuckles reveal the Master Emerald's location. Though Tails warned against abandoning their teamwork, Knuckles, honoring their oath of trust, revealed Wade Whipple as its guardian. Overcome by anger, Sonic stole the emerald and activated his super transformation.[5]
"Guys, I'm really sorry for running off like that. I shouldn't have left you behind. The truth is... you're the best teammates a Hedgehog could ever ask for. And the best friends. Can you ever forgive me?" "...Team Sonic?" "How about just 'Team?'"
As Sonic and Shadow reconciled their differences, the two hedgehogs united, using the Chaos Emeralds to stop the Eclipse Cannon from firing at Earth. When Robotnik opened an airlock in the Space Colony ARK to throw out Eggman, who betrayed him to save the planet, Tails and Knuckles used a ring portal to reach the ARK, rescuing Eggman and lifting him to use a Super Sonic's quill to disintegrate Robotnik in the Chaos Energy field. Partnering with Eggman, Tails and Knuckles worked to redirect the cannon's trajectory, while Super Sonic and Super Shadow prevented the laser from firing. The trio successfully diverted the shot but accidentally split the Moon in half. As they celebrated, they realized with alarm that Sonic was falling, having lost his super form.

Quickly, Knuckles hurled Tails toward Sonic, who was near the atmosphere, and Tails attempted to open a ring portal to save him but fainted in the process. Knuckles managed to stay conscious as he entered the atmosphere, throwing the ring just in time before grabbing his friends and landing safely in a field. Upon waking, Team Sonic was relieved to have survived and watched from afar as the ARK exploded, realizing with sorrow that Shadow and Eggman had made the ultimate sacrifice to save the planet. Sonic apologized to his friends for his vengeful behavior, expressing that they were the best teammates he could ever wish for and asking if they could forgive him. In response, Knuckles raised his fist and embraced the name "Team Sonic," which moved Sonic to hug both him and Tails. Sonic then suggested they simply call themselves "Team."[5]

Afterward, Team Sonic, Maddie, and Ozzie set up another camp to celebrate Tom's recovery, where the trio made s'mores, which Sonic and Knuckles happily devoured. When Tom emerged from his tent, the team, Maddie, and Ozzie shared a joyful hug, expressing their happiness at being together and stronger than ever, knowing nothing would tear them apart. However, Sonic challenged Tails and Knuckles to a real race to prove who was the fastest among them. As the race began, Team Sonic raced through the forest toward the setting sun, with Sonic quickly pulling ahead, leaving Tails and Knuckles behind.[5]

After allying with and being betrayed by a surviving Eggman to find Shadow and Gerald Robotnik, Sonic made increasingly stubborn and irrational choices as to finish his mission, leaving his team behind in London after infiltrating G.U.N. HQ to confront Shadow. They eventually made amends and saved the planet from the Eclipse Cannon, deactivated by Sonic's teammates. Sonic fell back to Earth but had his friends land safely, being forgiven for his actions by them when apologizing.

HQ and launch the planet-devastating Eclipse Cannon. Tails had the team do the same, gaining control over the building, but to no avail. Tails and Knuckles later stopped the cannon from firing at Earth, forgiving Sonic for oftentimes acting on his own despite Tails' warnings not to.

Completing his quest and moving into the Wachowski Residence after encountering a sentient Badnik, Knuckles and his friends were recruited by the Guardian Units of Nations to neutralize Shadow the Hedgehog, who formed Team Robotnik with Eggman and Gerald Robotnik to infiltrate G.U.N. HQ and launch the planet-devastating Eclipse Cannon. Knuckles helped redirect the cannon from its target on Earth, saving Tails and Sonic from falling towards and crashing into the planet. Having entered a quarrel with Sonic over the use of the Master Emerald, Knuckles forgave Sonic when he apologized for his actions.
In the video game series, Team Sonic was a group formed after the 2004 video game Sonic Heroes' events, fighting against dangers or competing against other teams.
↑Sonic the Hedgehog 3 takes place in the summer of 2024. However, the movie has conflicting statements as to when Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 take place and claims that those events were 'years' ago from the third film. This, however, does not work in retrospect since the first two films takes place within the span of 8 months in the same year, with Knuckles taking place during the summer of the following year. In the novelization for the third film, it states that the 'big fight with Dr. Robotnik in Green Hills' was 'last year.' Using this, Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2's main events can be placed in 2023, and Knuckles' main events taking place shortly before Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in 2024.
